SAN ANGELO – Angelo State's Kenedy Urbany hit a solo home run in the bottom of the sixth inning and pitched the final 2.2 innings to secure a 4-3 win over Lubbock Christian in the first round of the NCAA Division II South Central Regional Tournament held at Mayer Field on Thursday evening.
The Rambelles improved to 53-5 on the season and will face No. 11 Colorado Mesa at 1 p.m. tomorrow at Mayer Field. The Lady Chaps fall to 39-18 will now face Cameron at 3:30 p.m. in the first elimination game at Mayer Field. ASU was out hit 6-4 and left 10 runners on base. The 53 wins is tied for the most in a single season.
"That was an outstanding game," Angelo State head softball coach Travis Scott said. "Lubbock Christian is a much better team than they were earlier this year. They made some adjustments and looked sharp today. I am very proud of our team and the resiliency we showed on being able to come back and win the game."
Urbany led off the bottom of the sixth after allowing a solo home run that tied the game at three. The senior had a full count and turned on a pitch that went over the left field fence to send the crowd into a frenzy. The home runs was the 12th of the season for Urbany and the 42nd of her career. She moves into a tie with Kacie Easley for most home runs in ASU history.
She would come out in the seventh and put LCU down in order to secure the win.
Amanda Ramage had given the Rambelles a 3-2 lead in the fifth. The junior was at the plate with two on and one out and a full count. She hit a ball just past the outstretched arm of the LCU third baseman to bring home Taegan Kirk and Danae Bina.
The Rambelles started the scoring in the second inning. Madison Greenwell hit a RBI infield single to score pinch runner Jacqueline Montejano from second base.
Brandy Marlett started the game in the circle and struck out four of the first six batters. LCU was able to score two off the junior in the fourth to take a 2-1 lead before Urbany came in relief in the fifth.
 Urbany improved to 19-1 on the season with the win after only give up two hits and one run in 2.2 innings pitched.
The Rambelles will face No. 11 Colorado Mesa at 1 p.m. The Mavericks defeated Cameron 3-2 in nine innings in the first game of the day. The last time these two teams faced off was in 2015. ASU leads the all-time series 3-0. The game will be carried locally on 100.1 KCLL with Jeremy Bryant on the call.
