SAN ANGELO – The Angelo State women's volleyball team (17-6, 10-3 Lone Star Conference will look to get back to their winning ways this week as they host Tarleton State here in Stephens Arena at the Junell Center Wednesday evening.
"We don't need any extra motivation to play Tarleton State," Angelo State head volleyball coach Chuck Waddington said. "They're a top 25 team and it's in our gym."
The Belles have been excellent defensively all season long, ranking first in the conference in opponent hitting percentage and second in opponent kills per set. Baleigh Allen has led the charge at the net all year long, recording 70 blocks. Sundara Chinn and Anna Graham have been formidable at the net as well, combining for 90 blocks on the year.
Chinn leads the team in digs with 247, and Makenna Hanssen is not far behind with 228. Libero Chloe Robinson and setter Meghan Parker have posted 217 and 215, respectively, and Morgan Preston rounds out the top five with 159.
Offensively, the Belles have been led all year long by Audrey Fragniere, who has posted 231 kills for an average of 2.82 per set. Sundara Chinn has been excellent all year as well, posting 198 kills for an average of 2.41 per set. Anna Graham and Baleigh Allen have come on strong as the season has gone on, with both posting over 170 kills. Allen leads the team and ranks third in the Lone Star Conference in hitting percentage at .329.
Setter Meghan Parker has set the tone for the Belles all year long with her excellent play. This season, she has recorded 837 assists for an average of 9.85 per set, both of which rank second in the Lone Star Conference. She has also recorded 37 service aces, which is tied for first in the conference.
Bailey Drum, Makenzie Griffin, and Brianna Hudson have all been integral members of the team this season. Drum has recorded 75 kills this season, which is good for sixth on the team, and averages 1.36 kills per set. Griffin saw extended playing time this past weekend for the first time this season, posting a career high 10 kills against Texas A&M-Commerce. She has 45 on the season, averaging 1.80 per set played. Hudson has posted 34 kills in limited playing time, averaging just over one kill per set on the year.
Tarleton State comes into Wednesday's match with a record of 20-2 (12-0 LSC) and riding a seventeen match winning streak. The Belles are 37-17 all time against the TexAnns.
