SAN ANGELO – The No. 4 Angelo State softball team swept Eastern New Mexico with an 8-0 run-rule victory in the series finale for its 23 straight win on Saturday afternoon at Mayer Field.
The Rambelles (24-1, 9-0 LSC) now have the second most consecutive wins in a single season with 23. ENMU (13-13, 6-6 LSC) were held to just two hits for the game and nine hits for the series. ASU scored a total of 28 runs off 33 hits.
"We continue to do a lot of little thing really well," Angelo State head softball coach Travis Scott said. "We were able to jump on them early with Karina Rocha's home run and Madison Greenwell on base. Madison had a really good weekend. Morgan Hill and Brandy Marlett were both really sharp today. It was a very good day."
The pitching duo of Morgan Hill and Brandy Marlett threw three inning each in the series finale. They only allowed one hit each and struck out four batters in 3.0 innings pitched.
The offense scored in the first inning for the fourth consecutive game as Karina Rocha got the crowd on their feet. With Madison Greenwell on second base, Rocha crushed a ball to left field for a two-run home run. It is the sophomore's 13th of the season.
Up 2-0, Brooke Mangold added a third run in the second inning. The senior hit a RBI single up the middle to score Jade Strother from second base.
Mangold added her second RBI of the day in the fourth. The senior hit a ball to the left center gap and she used her speed for a triple to make it 4-0. She would score on a wild pitch moments later to increase the lead to 5-0.
Strother doubled to left center to start the sixth and a walk and stolen base by Greenwell put runners at second and third. Bailey Wallace promptly ended the game hitting a ball over the left field fence to make it 8-0 and enforce the run-rule.
Marlett picked up her 11th victory of the season in relief.
The Rambelles will have a quick turnaround with a doubleheader against South Central Regional rival St. Mary's on Monday in San Antonio.
