CANYON, Texas – The No. 4 Angelo State softball team held on for a 4-3 LSC series opening win over No. 15 West Texas A&M on Friday night in Canyon.

The Rambelles (26-2, 10-0 LSC) recorded seven hits and scored four runs off five WT errors. The Lady Buffs (22-4, 5-2 LSC) had four hits but were struck out nine times.

"We found a way to win tonight," Angelo State head softball coach Travis Scott said. "Morgan Hill was outstanding especially early on but she was able to battle late in tough situations. She was able to get the ground ball and Danae was able to finish it off. It was a big win and a great way to start the weekend."

The Rambelles were clinging to a 4-3 lead in the bottom of the seventh. WT were down to its final out and had the bases loaded on Morgan Hill. The senior had stuck out nine batters and given up three runs and only four hits through 6.2 innings. WT's Kylee Moore stepped to the plate and hit a slow roller up the middle of the field. Danae Bina stepped over bobbled the ball but was able to toss the ball quick enough to get the final out and secure the victory.

Hill earned her 13th victory of the season and tied her career high with nine strikeouts.

The Rambelles got on the board quick due to a couple WT errors. Bailey Wallace reached on a throwing error by the second baseman. Karina Rocha got on first after a throwing error by the pitcher and the ball got to the dugout. Wallace came home all the way from third for the first run. With Rocha sitting on third, Taegan Kirk hit a single up the middle to make it 2-0.

Morgan Hill came out on fire in the circle. The Salado struck out five of the first six batters and only allowed one hit through the first five innings.

Angelo State took advantage of another WT error in the fifth. With Wallace on base, Rocha reached on a fielding error by the second baseman. Kirk put down a bunt in front of the catcher. The WT catcher made an errant throw that allowed Wallace to score. Mykayla Stroud stepped to the plate with runners at second and third and put down a RBI bunt single to score Rocha to make it 4-0.

The Rambelles and Lady Buffs will conclude their series tomorrow with a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m. in Canyon. The first game can be heard locally on 1260AM KKSA with Jeremy Bryant on the call.
