SAN ANGELO – The Angelo State tennis team will hit the road again this weekend, traveling to Colorado for matches against Colorado Mesa, Colorado-State Pueblo and Metropolitan State.
The Belles are now 8-5Â on the season and 0-1 in Lone Star Conference play with a loss to No. 21 Midwestern State.
In doubles play this season, ASU is led by the pairing of Ena Ovcina and Maria Delgadillo, who were recently ranked No. 41 in all of Division II women's tennis earlier this week by ITA/Oracle. As a tandem, they are 7-6 in doubles play this year, playing exclusively on court one.
On court two, the Belles have used the duo of Zoe Gubbels and Lucie Maitrot, winning eight matches and losing just five. Yasmine Ansari and Virginie Becht have been the main two playing on court three, posting a 7-4 record. Melanie Dreux has also played two matches with Becht on court three with a 2-0 record. Overall, ASU is 24-15 in doubles matches.
Both Delgadillo and Gubbels have been strong in singles play as well this season, each wining nine matches to just three losses.
Becht and Maitrot have followed close behind, posting identical 8-4 records on the season. Ansari is 7-5 this year in singles play, and Dreux has also contributed with a 5-1 showing.
The matches against Colorado Mesa and Colorado State-Pueblo will take place on Friday at 10 a.m. and 4 p.m., respectively. The Belles will then face Metro State at 9 a.m. Sunday.
