Belles Top Mustangs, 7-2

SILVER CITY, New Mexico – The Angelo State tennis team won its second straight Lone Star Conference match Saturday morning, defeating Western New Mexico 7-2.

The Belles moved to 13-5 overall with the win and 2-1 in LSC play. They have won five straight matches.

Starting out with doubles competition, the Belles took two of the three points available. Virginie Becht and Zoe Gubbels got the first win of the day, earning an 8-3 victory on court two.

Ena Ovcina and Maria Delgadillo followed with a win of their own on court one, taking down Klara Smolikova and Jeanne Kolb 8-3.

The only doubles point the Belles dropped came on court three, where Lucie Maitrot and Melanie Dreux lost 8-6.

ASU then took five of the six point in singles play as well. Virginie Becht was dominant on court four, winning 6-0, 6-0.

Dreux and Maitrot were also solid in singles on courts five and six, as Maitrot won 6-3, 6-2 and Dreux earned a 6-3, 6-2 victory.

On court three, Zoe Gubbels got in an 0-1 hole after losing the first set 3-6, but came back and took the second and third sets 6-3, 10-7 for another point.

Delgadillo won on court two as well, defeating Nadia Justiniano 6-4, 7-5.

The Belles will continue Lone Star Conference play this week, taking on UT Permian Basin at 2 p.m. on Thursday in Odessa, Texas.
