WICHITA FALLS – The Angelo State tennis team dropped its 2018 Lone Star Conference opener Friday afternoon, falling to Midwestern State 7-2.
The Belles fell to 5-4 on the season with the loss, but will have several more chances for wins this weekend as they travel to Florida for four matches over the next four days.
Midwestern State put ASU in an early hole, winning all three singles points to start the match.
In singles play, ASU got two wins on courts four and five. Zoe Gubbels earned the court four victory, winning 6-4, 6-3, while Virginie Becht won 6-2, 6-1.
Ena Ovcina played a close match on court one, winning the first set 6-1 before losing sets two and three 6-3 and 7-5.
Maria Delgadillo lost on court two 6-0, 6-1 and on court three Yasmine Ansari fell 6-2 and 7-5.
The Mustangs took the final point of the day as Lucie Maitrot lost on court six as well.
ASU's next match will come against the University of Charleston on Sunday.
