SAN ANGELO – The Angelo State tennis team will finish up conference play this weekend with three matches against Lone Star Conference opponents including two at home on Saturday and Sunday.
The Belles (13-5, 2-1 LSC) will travel to Odessa first to take on UT Permian Basin on Thursday at 2 p.m.. They will then return home for a match at 10 a.m. on Saturday against Tarleton State and a showdown with Texas A&M-Kingsville at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
ASU is currently riding a five-match winning streak after an upset win over No. 17 Cameron and a road victory against Western New Mexico last weekend.
Zoe Gubbels has helped lead the team during the winning streak and has won 11 straight singles matches of her own. The Netherlands native is 14-3 overall this season, tying with Maria Delgadillo for the best singles record on the team. She has also gone 11-7 in doubles play this year and was 2-0 last weekend playing with Virginie Becht for the first time.
Delgadillo has posted an identical 14-3 record in singles play this spring while playing mostly on court two. The Mexico City native was ranked as the No. 58 singles player in Division II women's tennis last week in the ITA/Oracle rankings. She is also 9-9 in doubles on court one while playing with Ena Ovcina.
Becht has won every singles match during the Belles' five-match win streak, splitting time between courts 4 four, five and six. She is 13-4 overall this season.
Ovcina has been ASU's No. 1 player for most of the season an is 11-6 in that role. In the match against Cameron, Ovcina took down the No. 18 ranked singles player in Division II women's tennis to help the Belles to victory.
Playing on courts five and six, Lucie Maitrot has posted a 12-5 record this season in singles play and is 9-9 in doubles play. Yasmine Ansari is 9-7 in singles on courts two and three and is 9-6 in the third doubles pairing for the Belles.
Melanie Dreux has also made contributions this spring, posting a 6-1 singles record on court six and a 2-1 record in doubles play. Â
