ODESSA – The Angelo State tennis team earned its sixth straight victory Thursday afternoon in Odessa, defeating UT Permian Basin 8-1.
The Belles are now 14-5 on the season and 3-1 in Lone Star Conference play.
ASU started the match off strong, winning all three doubles points for an early 3-0 lead. On court one, Ena Ovcina and Maria Delgadillo earned an 8-3 victory, as did Virginie Becht and Zoe Gubbels on court two. The win was the third straight for Becht and Delgadillo since the two begin playing together last weekend.
Yasmine Ansari and Lucie Maitrot finished off the 3-0 start for the Belles with an 8-5 win on court three.
Moving into singles play, Ovcina and Gubbels started off with set one wins. Gubbels went on to finish her win out and put ASU up 4-0.
Ansari then clenched the team win by winning her singles match on court three.
Ovcina won to put ASU up 6-0 and Maitrot and Delgadillo followed with wins of their own. The only loss for the Belles on the day came on court five, where Becht fell in a tiebreaker to close out a close match.
The Belles will now return home for a pair of matches on campus this weekend, taking on Tarleton State at 10 a.m. Saturday and Texas A&M-Kingsville at 1 p.m. on Sunday at the ASU Tennis Complex.
