Rambelles Fall to Southern Indiana 3-0

SALEM, Virginia – The No. 6 Angelo State softball team lost 3-0 to Southern Indiana in game two of the Division II College Softball World Series and due to a inclement weather will face the winner of Southern Arkansas and Chico State at 8:30 a.m. EST / 7:30 a.m. CST on Saturday, May 26.

The Rambelles (53-8) were no-hit for the first time since 2015 as the Screaming Eagles (38-23) recorded eight hits on the day. ASU had one base runner the entire game and struck out 10 times.

"You have to give Southern Indiana's pitcher credit," Angelo State head softball coach Travis Scott said. "She was taking advantage of what she was given and throwing the heck out of it. She had good velocity and movement. We were close a couple of times but we had a lot of swings and misses. Another pitching duel unfortunately in the fifth they were able to get the single to get on the board and we could never get anything generated."

Karina Rocha would be the only baserunner of the game as she drew a walk in the second inning. SIU's Jennifer Leonhardt would strikeout 10 Rambelles in facing one over the minimum.

Brandy Marlett matched Leonhardt holding SIU scoreless through the first four innings. She did have to get out of a couple of jams. With runners and first and third, SIU tried to steal second. Taegan Kirk gunned it down to Danae Bina and tried to run down the runner at first. The senior saw the runner from third break for home and threw the ball home in time for the out.

It wouldn't be until the fifth that SIU broke through. The leadoff runner reached on an error but Marlett would strikeout the next two batters. A walk followed by an infield single would load the bases. Morgan Hill came in to pitch in relief. The first batter his a single to right field and Brooke Mangold threw a perfect ball to Kirk at home. Kirk applied the tag for what looked like the third out of the inning but a questionable obstruction call was made and the run was scored. Another RBI single in the inning made it 3-0.

Due to inclement weather, Saturday's games have been changed to 8:30 a.m. EST / 7:30 a.m. CST. If ASU win's they will play again right after at 10:30 a.m. EST / 9:30 a.m. CST.
