CANYON, TEXAS – The Angelo State volleyball team continued their strong start to Lone Star Conference play, defeating West Texas A&M by a score of 3-1 (25-18, 25-19, 19-25, 25-16) to improve to 4-1 in conference play. The win was only the second in The Box in head coach Chuck Waddington's tenure.
The Belles were dominant from the outset, hitting .350 through the first two sets with 31 kills while only allowing the Lady Buffs to hit .128.
The third set was a back and forth affair, with WT racking up the points at the end of the set to deal the Belles their only set defeat of the day.
In the fourth set, the Belles came out with a renewed focus and dominated offensively, recording 16 kills on 42 attacks, and steadily pulled away to take the set and match, with the final point hammered down by Anna Graham.
Offensively, the Belles were led by Audrey Fragniere, who recorded 20 kills on a .326 hitting percentage for the match. Baleigh Allen, who currently ranks in the top five in the Lone Star Conference in hitting percentage, recorded 12 with only one error for a sterling .423 mark. Bailey Drum set a season high and matched Allen with 12 kills of her own, and Anna Graham added 10.
Defensively, the Belles were led by Sundara Chinn and Chloe Robinson, who both recorded 19 digs on the afternoon. This was a season and career high for Robinson.
Setter Meghan Parker enjoyed another excellent match, recording a double double with 50 assists and 10 digs. Additionally, she chipped in three service aces to add to her team high total.
The Belles will be in action next week at Stephens Arena in the Junell Center when they take on Texas A&M-Kingsville on September 21st at 7 p.m.
