SAN ANGELO – The Angelo State men's basketball team (8-3, 1-1 LSC) will look to continue their early season success as they travel to Texas A&M-Kingsville to take on the Javelinas on Saturday afternoon.
So far, the Rams have been led by senior guard Daron Mims, who is averaging 13.3 points and 2.4 rebounds per contest. Junior Ronald Bell and Antonio Singleton both join him in double figures as well. Bell is averaging 12.7 points per game and leads the team in rebounding with 7.1 per contest. Singleton has led the team in scoring in the past three regular season games and is averaging 12.3 points and 3.5 rebounds.
Other strong contributors include Josh Boutte, Kiair Crouch, James Kirksey, Collin Turner, and Paul Williams. Boutte has been strong on both ends all season, averaging 9.2 points and 6.5 rebounds per contest. Crouch has come on strong lately and is averaging 7.9 points and 2.8 assists per game, which leads the team. Kirksey has been a great all around player, averaging 7.5 points, 5.9 rebounds, 2.7 assists, and 2.2 steals per game. Turner and Williams have both provided needed stability in the backcourt, each averaging 6.9 points per game and having a positive assist to turnover ratio.
On the season, the Rams are averaging 81.3 points per game while giving up only 70.2. They have outrebounded opponents by an average of eight per game and have forced 17 more turnovers than they have committed.
Texas A&M-Kingsville comes into Saturday's matchup with a record of 4-6 (0-2 LSC). The Javelinas will look to avoid falling to 1-3 at home.
