No. 18 Belles Continue To Shine As Volleyball Defeats UTPB

ODESSA, Texas – The No. 18 Angelo State Belle Volleyball team played a hard fought match against a well-rounded team from the University of Texas-Permian Basin. The Belles extend their overall record to 19-1 and their conference record to 11-0.
 
In Case You Missed It:
  • Set one would start off at a slow pace for the Belles, as both teams wouldn't be able to gain an advantage over the other.
  • ASU slowly started to pull ahead of the Falcons, gaining a 10-7 lead. UTPB would make a comeback however, and tie the match at 10-10.
  • The Belles and Falcons would continue to battle back and forth to try and gain a lead over the opponent, until UTPB player Skyler Friel set the momentum for the Falcons with a service ace.
  • With some errors from the Falcons and Makenna Hanssen's serving capabilities to spur the Belles onward, ASU tied set one at 21-21.
  • The Falcons would take set one on an attack error from Angelo State however, ending the set at 25-23.
 
  • ASU took an early lead in set two over UTPB, 4-2.
  • The Blue and Gold would maintain their momentum and extend their lead to 10-6 over the Falcons.
  • Two kills from Haley Coulter  increased the Belles lead to 16-12 over UTPB.
  • ASU would catch their second wind later in set two and extend their lead to 20-14.
  • Kills from Sophia Berg and Chloe Patton would end the set in favor of the Belles, taking set two 25-16 over the Falcons.
 
 
  • A service ace from Lindsey Ledyard gave the Belles an early 5-2 lead over UTPB in set three.
  • Kills from Coulter and Chinn extended ASU's lead even further to 9-6.
  • With Ledyard back to serve for the Belles again, alongside kills from Kailyn Gilbreath, ASU's lead would grow to 14-8 over the Falcons.
  • UTPB slowly made a comeback and shortened the Blue and Gold's lead to 21-20 on a service error by ASU.
  • A kill from Coulter would end set three for ASU, 25-22.
 
  • Set four would start off slow for ASU, with UTPB jumping to an early 4-1 lead over the Belles.
  • ASU, through attack errors from UTPB and Hanssen's serving capabilities, would cut the Falcons lead to 10-8.
  • Chinn's serves helped cut the Falcons lead over the Belles to 16-14.
  • ASU and UTPB would fight tooth and nail, back and forth, to take the set from the other. UTPB would take set four 25-23 over ASU and forced a set five.
 
 
  • The Belles jumped to an early 3-0 lead over the Falcons in set five.
  • UTPB would tie the score at 6-6, and would take the lead and extend it to 8-6.
  • ASU made a comeback and tied the set at 8-8, and a ball handling error from UTPB increased the ASU lead, 9-8
  • ASU and UTPB would continue to fight for points with neither side being able to gain the advantage over the other.
  • With a kill from Haley Coulter, ASU would take set five, and the match, 19-17.
 
Key Players:
  • Kailyn Gilbreath led the Belles offense with 18 kills against the Falcons. She also registered five digs.
  • Meghan Parker was a major asset for the Belles, registering 31 assists and one service ace on offense, and 18 digs on defense.
  • Lindsey Ledyard led the Belles defense with 22 digs, while Makenna Hanssen registered 19 digs.
 
Up Next:
The Belles will travel to Lubbock, Texas, to face the Lady Chaparrals at their home court, the Rip Griffin Center. First serve is slated for 6 p.m. on Tuesday, October 22.
