SAN ANGELO, Texas – The Angelo State University soccer team defeated the University of Texas at Tyler Patriots, 2-1, on Saturday afternoon on Senior Day.
The Belles improve to 11-3-1 overall and 7-2-1 in conference play.
In Case You Missed It:
- In the 14th minute of the game, the Belles' Kiah Benham took a free kick from just beyond midfield and kicked it far enough into the crease that Cassidy Hill was able to jump and head the ball into the net to put ASU on the board, 1-0.
- At the half, the Patriots edged out the Belles on shots, 11-9, as they trailed, 1-0.
- Early into the second half, UT Tyler scored quickly to tie the match, 1-1.
- In the 65th minute, senior Trenadey Scott lobbed the ball over the Patriot defender to Chloe Souza, who kicked the ball with her left foot into the back left corner of the net to give the lead back to the Belles, 2-1, and claim the victory.
- ASU outshot the Patriots, 7-3, in the second half and 16-14 in the game.
Coach McCorkle's Comments:
"I liked today's game because I have a clear picture of what our focus will be in practice this week. Disappointed about the goal we allowed, but we worked hard and when you do that, better things happen. Nice to score a couple goals. Especially happy for our seniors and Chloe to get her goal today and Cassidy. Both have been pushing to help the team in attack."
Key Players:
- Hill scored her first collegiate goal to help lead the Belles to a 2-1 victory over UT Tyler.
- Trenadey Scott tallied one assist and five shots on goal for the Blue and Gold.
- Kiah Benham and Avery McNeme each tallied three shots while Souza and three other players tallied one shot.
- Kira Miller recorded six saves between the pipes.
