Rams Defeat Gators

ROHNERT PARK, California – The Angelo State University men's basketball team claimed its second win of the season, defeating San Francisco State, 88-68, on Saturday night. Collin Turner notched a career-high 22 points.

The Rams improve to 2-0 to start the season.

In Case You Missed It:
  • Turner grabbed the Rams first lead at the 18:56 mark on a three pointer to lead 3-2 at the start of the game.
  • Neither team was really able to gain an advantage over the other until the 12:33 mark when Turner knocked down two free throws to give the lead to the Rams at 19-18, followed by Ronald Bell dropping two free throws as well to increase the lead to 21-18.
  • At the 2:46 mark, Bell hit two more from the line to tie the game 35-all and started a 9-2 run to end the first half at 42-36.
  • The Rams shot 61.9 percent from the floor, 71.4 percent from beyond the arc, and 68.8 percent from the line in the first half.
  • The Blue and Gold continued their run streak, starting the second half on an 8-2 run.
  • At the 16:46 mark, Andres Ibarguen hit a layup to give the Rams a double-digit lead over the Gators, 48-38.
  • From there, the Rams did not let up as San Francisco State tried to cut in on the lead to trail by 11 at the 13:26 mark, 57-46.
  • The Gators tried once again to cut in on the Rams lead and trailed 63-57 at the 9:17 mark.
  • Starting at the 7:45 mark after the Gators brought the game within four points, the Rams went on a 9-0 run to lead 74-61 at the 4:16 mark.
  • From there, the Rams ran up the score to claim the victory, 88-68.
Notable Performances:
  • Turner notched a career-high 22 points. He went 100 percent from the floor all-around in the first half. Turner went 6-of-8 from the floor, 4-of-5 from beyond the arc, and 6-of-6 from the line.
  • Bell tied Turner with 22 points and grabbed four rebounds.
  • Paul Williams and Marcel Pettway helped contribute on the offense both scoring 11 points.
  • The Rams finished 80 percent from the line, 55.6 percent from behind the arc, and 57.4 percent from the floor.
