Manning Carries Rams to Victory

ALAMOSA, Colorado – The No. 21 Angelo State University football team defeated the Adams State Grizzlies on Saturday afternoon, 41-21.

The Rams improve to 8-1 overall.

In Case You Missed It:
  • Halfway through the first quarter, Adams State took the lead on a 35-yard field goal attempt to lead the Rams, 3-0.
  • Early in the second quarter, the Grizzlies increased their lead on another field goal from 39-yards out to lead, 6-0.
  • Three minutes later, the Rams charged down the field and Daven Manning punched in a 4-yard run to put the Rams on the board and take their first lead, 7-6.
  • Less than three minutes remaining in the first half, Payne Sullins found Manning and completed an 8-yard reception to push the Rams lead to 14-6.
  • Less than 30 seconds later, the Grizzlies' quarterback John Buksa aired it out for 66-yards to Ziere Banner for an Adams State touchdown to trail 14-12 heading into the half.
  • Five minutes into the second half, Sullins connected with Manning again for a 19-yard touchdown reception to push the Angelo State lead to 21-12 over the Grizzlies.
  • With less than two minutes remaining in the third quarter, Adams State scored in a 4-yard rush to trail, 21-19.
  • The Rams received the ball back before the end of the third and drove down the field to the Adams State 4-yard line to set up the scoring touchdown drive to start the fourth quarter. Kaleb King scored his first touchdown of the game on a 4-yard rush to increase the Blue and Gold lead to 28-19 in the first six seconds of the fourth quarter.
  • Roughly three minutes later, Sullins handed the ball off to Alize Thomas to punch in a 1-yard rush to increase the Rams lead to 35-19 over the Grizzlies.
  • In the final four minutes of the game, Hunter Kyle grabbed an interception and returned it for 12-yards to set up the touchdown play from the Adams State 33. The very first play of the Rams drive, King rushed for 33-yards to score and push the Blue and Gold lead to 41-19. However, the Grizzlies were also able to score with a safety off a blocked kick to trail, 41-21.
  • Devin Washington sealed the victory for the Rams with a last second interception to keep the Grizzlies out of the end zone and give the Rams the 41-21 victory.
Key Players:
  • Manning led the offense with three touchdowns to notch a season-high and ended with 48 yards. King finished with 112 yards and two touchdowns.
  • Keke Chism registered 100 yards on six receptions while Manning had five receptions for 42 yards.
  • Defensively, Kyle led the defense with 13 tackles and one interception while Duran Miller had 11 tackles. Washington was a force in the backfield with two interceptions.
