No. 21 Rams Fall in OT Heartbreaker

PORTALES, N.M. – The No. 21 Angelo State University football team fell in an overtime thriller the Eastern New Mexico Greyhounds on Saturday night, 20-17. Daven Manning carried the Rams offense scoring both touchdowns but came up short.

The Rams fall to 8-2 overall and 5-2 in conference action.

In Case You Missed It:
  • Both teams struggled to find their momentum until the Rams ended the scoreless streak on a 30-yard field goal by Connor Flanigan to give the Rams a 3-0 lead.
  • Early into the second quarter, the Greyhounds answered back with a 46-yard field goal by Tyler Vargas to tie the game, 3-3.
  • Right before halftime, the Rams drove down the field leaving 12 seconds on the clock to set themselves up in scoring position. Daven Manning punched in a two-yard run to give the Rams the lead at halftime, 10-3.
  • Both teams went scoreless in the third quarter as the both defenses put up a good fight to withhold the other.
  • Early into the fourth quarter, the Greyhounds managed to tie the game once more at 10-10 on a 14-yard run by Paul Terry.
  • The Blue and Gold answered back halfway through the fourth quarter to take the lead back, 17-10. Manning rushed for 1-yard to score the second touchdown for the Rams.
  • With just over four minutes remaining in the fourth quarter, the Greyhounds tied the game back up, 17-17, on a 1-yard touchdown rush by Wyatt Strand to force the overtime period.
  • Eastern New Mexico started with the ball in overtime and was stopped and forced to kick a field goal from 39-yards out to take the 20-17 lead.
  • ASU was given the next opportunity and were unable to score and missed a field goal to tie and fell short for the victory.
Key Players:
  • Payne Sullins went 13-of-26 for 208 yards.
  • Manning led the rushers with 57 yards on 18 attempts and two touchdowns.
  • Alize Thomas led the receivers with 73 yards on three catches and notched a season-high long 47 yard reception.

The Rams return home for senior day to host Texas A&M - Commerce on Saturday, November 16. Kickoff is slated for 3 p.m.
