Belles Fall To LCU At Home

SAN ANGELO, Texas – The Angelo State University Belles basketball team fought tooth and nail against the Lady Chaparrals of Lubbock Christian, the D2 defending national champions, but to fall short of the finish line as the Lady Chaps defeated the Belles, 75-64.
 
In Case You Missed It:
First Quarter
  • Angelo State started off strong as both Catara Samuel and De'Anira Moore both made two jumpshots very quickly in the first quarter.
  • Sawyer Lloyd made an impressive three point shot from the three point line to put the Belles in an 8-5 lead over LCU.
  • Two three pointers from Lubbock Christian however brought the Lady Chaps ahead of the Belles to take the lead, 13-8.
  • A three pointer from Samuel tied the game up at 13-13.
  • Two three pointers and a layup from LCU gave the Lady Chaps am eight point lead going into the second quarter, 23-15.
Second Quarter
  • LCU kept their momentum going into the second quarter, scoring nine points before ASU scored on a three pointer from Lana Marov, the score at 35-18, LCU.
  • Free throws from Samuel and Marov, and a three pointer from Marov and a layup from Asia Davis, cut the Lady Chaps lead to just 14 points, 40-26.
  • Free throws from Samuel and Moore ended the second quarter for the Belles, 42-29.
 
Third Quarter
  • Angelo State and Lubbock Christian traded points back and forth throughout the beginning of the third quarter, LCU maintaining their 14 point lead.
  • Lubbock Christian kept Angelo State to a scoreless two and a half minutes in the third quarter while jumping to a 23 point lead over the Belles, 56-33.
  • ASU found the endurance to push through and shorten LCU's lead to just 11 points with several three pointers and jump shots from Lloyd, Moore, and Marov.
 
Fourth Quarter
  • A three pointer from Marov and a jumper from Moore started Angelo State off to a good start in the fourth quarter, keeping LCU's lead to just 11 points.
  • Several layups from Moore, and several jump shots from Samuel, cut the Lady Chaps lead down to just six points, 68-62.
  • Lubbock Christian took control of the quarter after the Belles found their second wind to firmly cement their victory, 75-64 over the Belles.
Key Players:
  • Lana Marov shot four for seven jump shots throughout the game, shooting 57% from the field. Marov scored 14 points for the Belles, registering five rebounds, one on offense and four on defense.
  • De'Anira Moore shot seven for seventeen from the field, scoring 21 points for Angelo State. Moore registered three rebounds, one on defense and two on offense, and one assist.
  • Catara Samuel shot five for fifteen from the field, scoring 15 points for ASU. Samuel registered nine rebounds, three on offense and six on defense, and one block and one steal.
