Rams Fall in OT Thriller to No. 19 DBU

SAN ANGELO, Texas – The No. 23 Angelo State University men's basketball team fell in an overtime thriller to No. 19 Dallas Baptist University on Saturday night, 84-82.

The Rams fall to 6-1 on the season and 2-1 in Lone Star Conference action.

In Case You Missed It:
  • ASU scored quick in the first 15 seconds to get on the board to lead 2-0.
  • Both teams battled through the first half, as neither team was able to gain an advantage over the other.
  • At the 9:14 and 8:01 marks, the Patriots managed to gain a six point lead at 18-12 and 20-14, respectively.
  • In the final minute and a half of the first half, the Rams tied it at 25-25 before DBU claimed the lead back.
  • ASU regained the lead back at 28-27 after Ronald Bell knocked down a three at the 1:02 mark.
  • DBU claimed the lead back off two made free throws before Marcel Pettway put back a layup in the final 10 seconds to give ASU the edge at halftime, 30-29.
  • Both teams fought hard in the second half, as both teams grabbed the lead five times in the second half, and tied the score four times.
  • With a minute remaining in the second half, the Rams trailed by three at 70-67, until Collin Turner hit a shot from beyond the arc to tie the game and force an overtime period.
  • At the 4:04 mark in overtime, the Rams grabbed the lead, 72-71, off a layup under the basket by Andres Ibarguen.
  • The duration of the overtime quarter, both teams battled as neither team could get an advantage over the other.
  • The Rams trailed in the final 10 seconds of the game coming with one at 83-82 but a last second free throw by the Patriots closed the game with ASU falling, 84-82.
Key Players:
  • Turner led the offense with 21 points going 7-of-13 from the field, 4-of-8 from beyond the arc, and 3-for-3 from the line.
  • Bell (16), Ibarguen (14), and Hayes (13) all hit double digits to contribute to the Rams offense.
  • Turner, Bell, and Ibarguen all grabbed nine rebounds apiece to lead the defense.
  • The Rams outrebounded the Patriots, 52-36.
