NEW BRAUNFELS – The Angelo State women's tennis team suffered their first loss of the season Saturday afternoon against St. Mary's, losing 6-1.
The Belles started off well, with the duo of Valentina Gonzalez and Ena Ovcina winning at number 1 doubles by a score of 6-4 and the duo of Virginie Becht and Zoe Gubbels winning at number 2 doubles by a score of 6-3. With those wins, the Belles won the doubles point to take a 1-0 lead.
However, the Rattlers won all six singles matches. Valentina Gonzalez lost 1-6, 6-4, 6-1 at number one, Ena Ovcina ost 7-5, 6-4 at number two, Maria Delgadillo lost 6-0, 6-4 at number three, Virginie Becht lost 6-2, 6-0 at number four, Zoe Gubbels lost 6-2, 6-2 at number five, and Yasmine Ansari lost 7-5, 1-6, (10-6) at number six. The Belles will be in action again tomorrow as they battle St. Edward's in Austin.
