Rams Fall in Series Finale to Chaparrals

SAN ANGELO, TX – The Angelo State Rams dropped the rubber game yesterday afternoon to the Lubbock Christian Chaparrals by a score of 6-1. The Chaparrals got ahead quickly by putting three runs up on the board in the top of the first inning, and one more in the second while holding the Rams scoreless.

The only ASU run of the game would come in the bottom of the fourth inning with Jordan Williams leading things off with a single to left field. Lachlan Mayo would then step up to the plate and drive a line drive double down the left field line, advancing Williams to third. Jackson Hardy, a freshman from Silsbee, Texas, would then then hit a sacrifice fly to centerfield to bring in Williams from third.

Lubbock Christian would score another run in both the fifth and eighth innings of the game while preventing the Rams from crossing the plate. The Chaparrals only outhit ASU by one, but they were able to find the holes in the infield consistently and with runners on base. The Rams' offensive woes came with either the opportunity to advance baserunners, or when they had runners in scoring position. The team hit 4-13 with runners on base, 1-8 with two outs, and were 0-3 with the bases loaded.

Brandon Dusenberry started on the bump for the Rams and gave up three consecutive singles on groundballs that found the gap between third base and shortstop. Fabian Muniz would come in as the relief effort in the first inning and stay in the game for seven total innings of work, facing 25 batters, giving up five hits. Josh Barnett made a familiar appearance as a closer and gave up one run on one hit.

The Rams look to bounce back this weekend as they travel to Pueblo, Colorado to take on the Colorado State – Pueblo Thunderwolves. Game 1 of the series is slated to begin at 2 p.m. on Friday, February 22nd.
