SAN ANGELO – The Angelo State men's basketball team (16-7, 9-5 Lone Star Conference) will look to get back to their winning ways this weekend as they take on Western New Mexico and UT Permian Basin at home.
The Rams have been led by Ronald Bell, who is averaging 13 points and 7.2 rebounds per game while shooting 45.7 percent from the field. Three other players average double figures, including Antonio Singleton, Daron Mims, and Kiair Crouch. Singleton averages 12.8 points and 3.3 rebounds per game while shooting 41 percent from the three point line, which leads the team. Mims averages 10.2 points and 2.1 rebounds per game, and Crouch is averaging 10.1 points per game while shooting 35.1 percent from the three point line.
Several other Rams have been consistent contributors this season, including James Kirksey, Josh Boutte, Paul Williams, Collin Turner, Marcel Pettway, and Valentine Sangoyomi. Kirksey continues to be an all around player for the team, averaging 7.2 points, 5.2 rebounds, 2.7 assists, and 2.1 steals per game. Boutte averages 7.2 points and 6.9 rebounds per game. Williams averages 6.2 points per game while leading the Rams from the free throw line, shooting at an 83 percent clip. Turner averages 6.1 points and two rebounds per game. Pettway averages 4.5 points and 4.5 rebounds per game while providing consistent stability at the defensive end of the floor. Sangoyomi averages 2.9 points and 3.4 rebounds in just 11 minutes per contest.
On the season, the Rams outscore their opponents by an average score of 79-72. They outrebound their opponents by nearly eight boards per game and record more than one steal more per game.
Western New Mexico comes into Thursday's matchup with a record of 5-16 (2-12 Lone Star Conference). They have won just two of ten road games this season.
UT Permian Basin comes into Saturday's game with a record of 13-11 (6-8 Lone Star Conference). They have gone 5-6 on the road this season.
