FRISCO – The Angelo State women's basketball team was unable to capitalize on a three point first quarter lead and lost the Lone Star Conference tournament championship game to West Texas A&M 71-55 Sunday afternoon. With the loss, the Belles drop to 24-5 on the season.
The Belles were led by De'Anira Moore, who had 16 points, five rebounds, and three blocks. She was joined in double figures by Marquita Daniels, who had 10 points, four rebounds, two assists, and three steals. Dezirae Hampton also had a good all-around performance with nine points, eight rebounds, seven assists, and two steals.
For the game, the Belles shot just 32 percent from the field and 16 percent (3-19) from the three point line while allowing the Lady Buffs to shoot 46 percent from the field.
Senior Marquita Daniels was honored for her outstanding performance throughout the tournament and was named to the All-Tournament team. She was joined on the team by Tarleton State's McKinley Bostad and West Texas A&M's Lexy Hightower, Deleyah Harris, and MVP Abby Spurgin.
The Belles will await their postseason fate as the NCAA selection show is tonight at 9 p.m.
