WICHITA FALLS – The Angelo State women's team had an excellent weekend as they went 3-0 against three in-region opponents.
On Friday, the Belles began by defeating Metro State 4-0. The Belles won the doubles point with Ena Ovcina and Valentina Gonzalez winning 7-5, Zoe Gubbels and Virginie Becht winning 6-2, and Maria Delgadillo and Lucie Maitrot winning 6-2. In singles, Gonzalez won 6-0, 6-2, Becht won 6-2, 6-1, and Gubbels won 6-2, 6-1. All other matches were in progress when the clinching point was won.
Later that day, the Belles defeated Colorado State-Pueblo 6-1. In doubles, the team of Ena Ovcina and Valentina Gonzalez won 6-2 while the duo of Zoe Gubbels and Virginie Becht won 6-3. ASU won the third doubles match by default. In singles, Gonzalez won 6-3, 6-0, Gubbels won 6-1, 6-0, Lucie Maitrot won 6-2, 6-3, Melanie Dreux lost 6-1, 6-2, Andrea Ramic won 6-0, 6-2, and ASU won by default at number six.
On Saturday, the Belles defeated Colorado Mesa 7-0. In doubles, Ena Ovcina and Valentina Gonzalez won 6-4, Zoe Gubbels and Virginie Becht won 6-2, and Maria Delgadillo and Lucie Maitrot lost 7-6 (2). In singles, Gonzalez won 6-0, 6-2, Ovcina won 7-5, 6-3, Delgadillo won 6-2, 4-6 (10-8), Becht won 6-2, 6-1, Gubbels won 6-0, 6-1, and Maitrot won 5-7, 7-5 (10-4).
The Belles will be in action again this coming week as they travel to California.
