Rams Dominate Series Opener 14-1

San Angelo, TX – The Rams dominated the first game of their home series against the Texans as they run ruled their foe from Stephenville 14-1. Angelo State would make the most of their plate appearances, scoring in five of the six innings that they stepped up to the plate. ASU would also score eight runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to blow the game open.

There were good signs for the Rams starting in the first inning. Trent Baker would only face three Tarleton batters in the top of the first inning, inducing two groundouts and a flyout.

Nicholas Novak would lead off for the Rams with an infield single before stealing both second and third base. Lachlan Mayo would then continue his run production streak by driving in Novak with a ground rule double to the opposite side of the field.

The Rams would have their way on the bases for the entirety of the game, stealing seven bases. The Texans also walked 10 batters out of the 42 they faced; combined with the Rams' five hits, Angelo States on base percentage was over .500 for the game.

Angelo State's ability to drive in runs combined with Tarleton's mound struggles would lead to a dominant 14-1 run rule series opener. The top of the lineup was on fire for the night, with Novak going 4-5 with four RBI and scoring four runs of his own as well. The Minnesota native would also collect an inside the park homerun and a triple to cap off his night. Lachlan Mayo once again solidified his position as a designated hitter, going 3-4 with three RBIs.

Trent Baker(4-1) earned his fourth win of the season with a strong performance on the bump. The sophomore would finish an inning shy of a complete game, but in his six innings of work he gave up only six hits while striking out five. Baker, who profiles as a big arm is no stranger to stretching his appearances to go deep into games. The young talent has built his reputation on his impressive velocity, fanning hitters with his fastball that fans have seen run into the mid-90s range. Tonight, Baker sat between 88-90 mph range, but found success in being able to locate his fastball and having a good feel for his breaking stuff.

Shannon Broussard would come in for the final three outs and would face the minimum three hitters. Broussard struck out one hitter and gave up a hit, but the Texans were not able to get anything going against the Baytown southpaw.
