Rambelles Split UTPB Doubleheader

Odessa, TX – The Rambelles (23-9, 10-6 in Lone Star Conference play) headed to Odessa to take on the UT – Permian Basin Falcons (6-22, 2-11 in Lone Star Conference play) in doubleheader fashion Saturday after potential rain moved the Friday game a day back.

Game 1

Neither team decided to wait to score in the first game, but they did have trouble crossing the plate after that. After Teagan Kirk hit an RBI single to right field that scored Hatty Shope, the Rambelles would fail to score a run until the sixth inning. The Falcons flame burnt out early as well, as they scored two in the bottom of the first, but never crossed home plate again.

It was Karina Rocha and Avery Ziegler getting things going again for Angelo State in the sixth inning. After a one out double through the right side, Logan Graham would enter to run for Karina Rocha and Avery Zeigler would step up to the plate with the chance to tie the game. The freshman did just that by working a full count and then lacing a double to left field that would score Graham from second.

The Rambelles seventh inning scoring was the result of the team's speed on the bases. After singling down the left field line, Courtney Barnhill stole second to bring up Hatty Shope with a runner in scoring position. Shope followed Barnhill's example and singled up the middle for an RBI and then stole second. Taegan Kirk then hit an infield single to the shortstop and moved Shope to third. Kirk eliminated the double play threat by stealing second – the Rambelles third swiped bag of the inning. The final run of the game came when Shope stole home to bring the score to 4-2.

Karina Rocha, Hatty Shope, and Taegan Kirk all had two hits in the game. Notably, Shope also tacked on four stolen bases.

Game 2

The second game of the evening went 11 innings deep but ended in heartbreak for the Rambelles who had fought to keep themselves alive until the end. Angelo State entered the final inning of the regulation play up 2-1, but the Falcons saved themselves by loading the bases and eventually bringing a run in to score. Both teams failed to score in the eighth and ninth innings but woke up in the tenth as the Rambelles once again took a one run lead only to have the Falcons save themselves again by plating a run of their own. It was the eleventh and final inning of the game when Angelo State took their biggest lead of the third game of the series by scoring two more runs. Not relenting, the Falcons once again fought back, but finally one upped the Rambelles to take the win.

The Rambelles scattered nine hits and only struck out three times, but bailed out UTPB with three errors in the field.

With the loss the Rambelles move to 23-10 overall and 10-7 in LSC play. The teams face off once again at 1 P.M. Sunday.
