Rambelles Win Two of Three Over Javelinas

SAN ANGELO, TX – The Angelo State Rambelles were back to playing what head coach Travis Scott called "Rambelle Softball" in their weekend series against a Texas A&M – Kingsville team that had been trouble for its opponents all season. It was this style of play, along with standout performances from the freshman class that allowed Angelo State to take the series win from the Javelinas.

Game 1

The first game of the Friday doubleheader was a thriller for Rambelle fans. After falling behind 6-1 early in the game, the Rambelles silenced TAMUK at the plate and scored three runs in both the third and seventh innings to win it in walk-off fashion. Hatty Shope was the first member of the ASU lineup to get the team on the board, as she did so with a solo home run in the bottom of the first inning. Disciplined plate approaches in the third would bring in three RBI walks to bring the team within two runs. The final comeback effort of the seventh inning was started by an Avery Zeigler RBI triple that led to Ashlyn Lerma laying down a beautiful bunt to score her freshman counterpart and tie up the game. With arguably the team's best baserunner on, Taegan Kirk tied the ASU career doubles record at 65 with a hard hit shot into the gap to walk it off.

Victoria Vasquez earned the credit in the circle as she came in to relieve Makayla Corbin in the second inning. Vasquez finished the final 5.2 innings of the game with a line of only three hits, three walks, and three strikeouts, giving the Rambelle lineup a shot to come back and win the game.

Game 2

The Javelinas were able to get on the board early and often in the doubleheader nightcap and take the win. TAMUK scored in the first, second, third, and finally added an insurance run in the seventh to walk away with the 7-3 victory. Although the result of the game was not ideal, there were still positive takeaways from the competition.

Ashlyn Lerma continued her solid performance with a 2-3 showing with a run in the game. The freshman was a combined 4-5 at the plate on the day. Taylor Fogle and Avery Zeigler also put themselves in the run column with solo shots. The early offensive rally from the Javelinas would prove to be too much for the Rambelles to overcome, however, and the doubleheader was officially split at the end of the night.

Game 3

Senior Day at Mayer Field marked the final LSC home game of the season for the Rambelles and ended in an 8-5 series-winning victory for Angelo State. It was the freshman Logan Graham's hot bat that staved off the cold wind at the park though, as she finished the game with a 2-3 line while collecting four RBI and her first career home run.

The Rambelles were the first team to plate a run in the series finale when Graham brought in Avery Zeigler and Jade Strother to score in the bottom of the second inning. Karina Rocha then came up big with a third inning grand slam that was followed later in the inning with a two run bomb to left center field.

The three freshman in the lineup ended the final game with a combined line of going 4-8 with four RBI, three runs, and a walk. On the series, the freshman trio combined for an offensive series of 11 hits in 24 bats, 7 runs scored, and 10 RBI.
