Rambelles Overwhelm Mustangs in Doubleheader Sweep

SILVER CITY, NM – The Angelo State Rambelles blew past the Western New Mexico Mustangs in the series opening doubleheader on Thursday, outscoring their opponent 22-4 in the two games. ASU's plate power was on display, as the Rambelles hit six home runs, five doubles, and a triple on the day. Courtney Barnhill ended the day an impressive 5-9 with seven RBI and two home runs.

Game 1

The Rambelles held the Mustangs scoreless for the first five innings of the series opening game while plating four runs of their own. All four runs were scored by the way of home runs with Courtney Barnhill and Mykayla Stroud each hitting a two run home run. After adding two more runs to their total in the sixth, the Rambelles benefitted from a huge bases-clearing double from Stroud. She would finish the game 2-5 with five RBI, a home run, and a double.

Makayla Corbin (10-7) earned her 10th win of the season in the circle as she tossed a lethal 6.2 innings and gave up only three runs on two hits.

Game 2

Angelo State's lineup returned to batter's box in a way that made it look that they were simply warming up in the first game. In fact, the Rambelles' first six runs were all scored by two-run home runs hit by Mykayla Stroud, Courtney Barnhill, and Karina Rocha. Courtney Barnhill continued her offensive tear with a two RBI double in the third, and then Chloe Read collected her first two RBI of her college career in the third and fourth with sacrifice ground outs that scored Ashlyn Lerma both times. Taylor Fogle capped off the ASU scoring assault with a two run homerun in the fifth. It was the Rambelles' fifth two run home run of the series.

Although the game would only go five innings, Meagan Hill threw an almost perfect four innings in which she gave up only one hit and struck out one.
