SAN ANGELO, TX – The Angelo State Rams celebrated their eleven seniors on Sunday with a pregame ceremony, a Lone Star Conference Regular Season Champions trophy, and a series-sweeping 14-6 win over the Texas A&M – Kingsville Javelinas. Not only was the game special for the seniors who were playing their last regular season game at their home field, but fans were treated to a couple of advancements in the Ram history book as well as another double-digit performance from the most productive offense in Division II baseball.
ASU had a hard time taking their foot off the gas in the series finale, scoring in every inning but the ninth. Their pitching and defensive performances would have allowed the Rams to take the win after just three innings of run production in which they plated seven runs. It all started with a pair of RBI doubles from Josh Elvir and Lachlan Mayo in the first inning after Nicholas Novak reached base on a perfectly executed bunt. Following that, the Rams would collect 14 more hits, a double, a triple, and a home run to distance themselves from their competition.
Five Rams finished the game with multiple hits, led by Lachlan Mayo and Jordan Williams who both went 3-4 with three RBI. Novak and Elvir were both trouble at the top of the lineup, each collecting two hits, two RBI, and two runs scored. Parker Bramlett also continued riding his plate momentum with a 2-4 performance following his walk-off hit from the night before.
Nicholas Novak passed Drew Caraway for sixth most hits (167) in Angelo State Career history and Michael Urquidi drew his 97th career walk to tie for most all-time at Angelo State.
Shannon Broussard earned the starting call for the final game at Foster Field at First Community Credit Union Stadium. The lefty threw for 4.2 innings, giving up five runs on five hits. Andrew Croucher would then relieve the Baytown native, finishing the final 4.1 innings of play. Croucher was lethal in his relief, giving up only one run on five hits while striking out three.
The Rams will play a make up game on Tuesday in Austin against the St. Edward's Hilltoppers to officially close out their regular season schedule. Fans will be able to follow along with Jeremy Bryant on 1260 KKSA, or the live audio link provided on angelosports.com.
