Rambelles Sweep Tuesday Twin Bill over Hilltoppers

SAN ANGELO, TX - The Angelo State Rambelles finished their regular season on a high note, winning both games of their Tuesday doubleheader against the St. Edward's Hilltoppers before heading to Kingsville for the Lone Star Conference Tournament.

Game 1

The Rambelles took the first game of the day after holding the Hilltoppers to just one run in the seven-inning game. After St. Edward's scored the first run of the game in the top of the third inning, Angelo State countered with five of their own in the bottom half of the inning after benefiting from six hits and one error from their opposition. After Ashlyn Lerma and Hatty Shope were good for back to back doubles, a string of four singles were able to continue bringing runners around the base paths. Both teams were good for eight hits at the end of the game, but the third inning would be the only time that either team scored.

It was the Salado sophomore Meagan Hill that muted the Hilltoppers at the plate, throwing a complete seven innings and giving up only one run on eight hits. Hill also fanned one batter while walking none. She earned her 17th win of the season.

Game 2

The second game of the day ended in a much closer decision than the first, but once again started with both teams plating their first runs in the third inning. An error on a Barnhill-driven flyball scored Hatty Shope to respond back to the Hilltopper single run that they had scored in the top of the inning. The Rambelles then separated themselves with four runs in the bottom of the fourth thanks to five singles. It was St. Edward's who would respond in this game, scoring a single run in the top of the fifth and one more in the top of the sixth before sending the Rambelles into the bottom of the seventh tied up at 6-6. Avery Zeigler had the last word in the game; however, as Mykayla Stroud, Taegan Kirk, and Maleya burns loaded the bases for the freshman who brought in the walk-off run with a single to left field.
