PORTALES, New Mexico – The Angelo State University men's basketball team defeated the Eastern New Mexico University Greyhounds on Saturday evening, 74-70.
The Rams improve to 11-3 on the season and 7-3 in Lone Star Conference action.
In Case You Missed It:
- Both teams got off to a slow start, as the Rams took a 6-5 lead at the 15:30 mark.
- Collin Turner ended the ASU scoring drought at the 12:40 mark of the first half, burying a three to give the Rams a 9-7 lead.
- Out of the second media timeout, Camron Reedus grabbed a steal and went coast-to-coast to increase the Rams lead to 11-7 but ENMU answered back to trail 11-9.
- Turner knocked in a three from the outside right corner to increase the ASU lead to 14-9 but the Greyhounds tried to keep it close, answering back with a layup to trail 14-11.
- At the 10:31 mark to the 9:55 mark, Andres Ibarguen put in two baskets to keep the lead in favor of ASU, 18-11.
- ENMU closed in on the Rams lead, scoring five points to trail 18-16 with 8:51 remaining in the first half.
- Both teams battled the rest of the first half, with ASU taking a 33-28 lead at halftime.
- Eastern New Mexico came out quick in the second half to knock down a three to trail, 33-31.
- Both teams battled hard in the second, tying the game 10 times.
- Rams went on a 14-2 scoring run over a five minute span. The run started with Jeremy Hayes knocking down a three to tie the game at 60-60 at the 5:56 mark.
- From there, the Blue and Gold claimed the 74-70 victory.
Coach Boone's Comments:
"I'm proud of the way our team responded tonight on the road in LSC play. This is a tough road trip and our guys made some really tough plays when the game was tied at 60-60 and put us over the top. Hopefully, we can build off of this going into next week."
Key Players:
- Turner and Ibarguen led the Rams offense, scoring 18 points apiece. Ronald Bell was right behind and finished in double figures with 11.
- Ibarguen led the defense, pulling in eight rebounds.
- The Rams outrebounded the Greyhounds, 32-26.

Angelo State returns home to host #6 St. Edward's and St. Mary's on Thursday, January 23 and Saturday, January 25, respectively. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. on Thursday and 4:00 p.m. on Saturday.
