Rambelles Start 2020 Off With A Win

SAN ANGELO, Texas – The Angelo State Belle basketball team defeated the UTPB Falcons at home to start off the 2020 season, 74-45.
The Belles jump to a 7-3 overall record, and 4-2 in conference.
 
In Case You Missed It:
First Quarter
  • Angelo State jumped to a quick 7-5 lead in the first quarter on a layup from Sawyer Lloyd. Another layup from De'Anira Moore as well as a free throw brought the Belles to a 10-5 lead over the Falcons.
  • A layup and free throw from Samantha Rocha brought the Blue and Gold to a nine point lead over UTPB, 16-7.
  • A made three pointer and jump shot from UTPB brought the Falcons within four points of the Belles lead, but a made three pointer from Megan Guadian brought the Blue and Gold to a seven point lead, 19-12.
  • Four made free throws from Moore ended the first quarter for the Belles, 23-17.
Second Quarter
  • A made jump shot from Lloyd brought Angelo State to an eight point lead over the Falcons in the second quarter, 25-17.
  • UTPB cut the Belles lead down to four points on a made jump shot and layup, but two fastbreak three pointers made by Guadian extended the Belles lead to 10 points, 31-21.
  • A made three pointer from Guadian and a layup from Catara Samuel extended Angelo States lead even further to 15 points, 36-21.
  • Lana Marov ended the second quarter for the Belles with a three pointer to bring ASU's lead to 18, 39-21.
Third Quarter
  • Two layups from Moore brought the Belles lead to 20 points to start off the third quarter, 43-23.
  • The Belles continued to show their offensive prowess on the court as multiple layups from Moore and Samuel brought the Belles to a 26 point lead over the Falcons, 49-23.
  • A made free throw from Marov brought the Blue and Gold to a 27 point lead, 50-23.
  • Lloyd and Guadian showed their shooting capabilities as they both made several three pointers and extending the Belles lead to 37 points, 64-27.
  • One more three pointer from Guadian ended the third quarter for the Belles, extending their lead to 39 points, 67-28.
Fourth Quarter
  • A free throw from Angel Hayden brought Angelo State to a 40 point lead over the Falcons, their highest lead of the night, 68-28.
  • A layup and two made free throws made by the Falcons as they attempted their comeback, cutting the Belles lead to 36 points, 68-32.
  • Several layups from the Falcons cut ASU's lead even more to 34, 72-38.
  • Two free throws from Samantha Rocha brought the Belles lead to 36, 74-38.
  • Several made free throws and layups from the Falcons cut the Belles lead down to 29 points, but the Belles speed and shooting capabilities proved too much for the Falcons, as Angelo State defeated the Falcons at home, 74-45.
Key Players:
  • Megan Guadian was on fire as she knocked down seven three pointers to tie for third in the record book for most three pointers in a game. Guadian scored 21 points, shooting 50% from the field and 54% from the three point line. Guadian registered three defensive rebounds, and one steal.
  • De'Anira Moore showed her versatility as she shot 100% from the field, shooting 5-5 from the field and 5-6 from the free throw line, scoring 15 points for the Belles. Moore registered 13 rebounds, three on offense and 10 on defense, as well as five blocks and one steal.

The Belles remain at home as the Western New Mexico Mustangs travel to San Angelo on Saturday, January 4. Tipoff is set for 2 p.m.
