Rambelles Fight In Nail Biter Against UT-Tyler

TYLER, Texas – The Angelo State Belle basketball team traveled to and defeated the University of Texas – Tyler Patriots, 69-66.
The Belles are now 12-5 overall, and are 9-4 in conference.
 
In Case You Missed It:
First Quarter
  • A put back layup from De'Anira Moore started the first quarter off for the Belles as Angelo State jumped to an early 2-0 lead over the UT-Tyler.
  • Another made layup from Moore, with the assist from Angel Hayden, brought the Belles back to lead the Patriots by one, 4-3.
  • Three made three pointers made by the Patriots took the lead from the Blue and Gold to lead by eight, 12-4. Two made free throws extended the Patriots lead to 10, but a layup from Samantha Rocha cut UT-Tylers lead down to eight, 14-6.
  • A made layup from Moore, assisted again by Hayden, plus a made free throw from Moore cut the Patriots lead down to seven, 16-9.
  • Another layup from Moore, with another assist from Hayden, along with a steal from Sawyer Lloyd to Kinley Brown for a fast break layup cut Tylers lead to seven going into the second quarter, 20-13.
Second Quarter
  • A made free throw from Rocha started the second quarter for the Belles, cutting the Patriots lead down to six, 20-14.
  • A made jumper from Lloyd cut the UT-Tylers lead further down to four, 20-16. The Belles defense kept the Patriots from scoring for over two minutes.
  • Two made free throws from the Patriots extended their lead back up to six, but another layup from Moore cut it back down to four, 22-18.
  • A made layup from Asia Davis cut UT-Tylers lead down to just two points, 22-20, with a little over five minutes left in the first half.
  • Moore would tie the game up at 22-22 on a made layup, with an assist from Lloyd, with 4:25 left on the clock.
  • Two made jumpers from UT-Tyler brought their lead back to four, but  a jumper from Hayden, a layup and free throw from Lloyd ended the second quarter for Angelo State as ASU took the lead by one, 27-26.
Third Quarter
  • A layup from Moore, assisted by Lloyd, extended the Belles lead by three, 29-26, to start off the third quarter for the Blue and Gold.
  • Two layups from UT-Tyler gave the Patriots their lead back, but two free throws from Lloyd gave ASU the lead back by one, 31-30.
  • Two free throws from Lloyd extended the Belles lead to five over UT-Tyler, 37-32.
  • Two jumpers from the Patriots cut ASU's lead down to one with 4:49 left in the third, 37-36.
  • A made free throw from Catara Samuel extended the Belles lead to two, 38-36.
  • Several made free throws and a three pointer from UT-Tyler brought their lead to three, but two free throws from Davis and a three pointer from Samuel brought the Belles deficit down to one, 44-43.
  • Two free throws from Brown brought the Belles lead back to one, 45-44, with less than two minutes left on the clock.
  • A layup from Moore cut the Patriots lead to one to end the third quarter for the Belles, 48-47.
Fourth Quarter
  • A made free throw from Moore, and a three pointer from Samuel, assisted by Hayden, brought the Belles to a three pointer lead over Tyler, 51-48.
  • A layup from Davis extended the Belles lead back to three over UT-Tyler, 53-50.
  • A three pointer from the Patriots tied the game at 53-53 with 7:37 left in the game.
  • Two free throws and a made three from downtown for Davis extended the Blue and Golds lead back up to five, 58-53.
  • Another three from Davis extended Angelo States lead even further to eight, 61-53.
  • A jumper and two free throws from UT-Tyler cut the Belles lead down to four, 61-57, with a little over five minutes left in the fourth quarter.
  • A jump shot from Moore brought the Belles lead back to four, 63-59.
  • UT-Tyler took the lead back from the Belles off of two jump shots with a minute left in the quarter, but two free throws from Moore brought the Belles back to a one-point lead, 67-66.
  • Two free throws from Samuel ended the fourth quarter, and the game for the Belles, as Angelo State defeated UT-Tyler, 69-66.
Key Players:
  • De'Anira Moore once again proved her offensive prowess and power in the paint for Angelo State as she scored 24 points for the Belles, shooting 10-12 from the field, and 4-9 from the free throw line. Moore registered 10 total rebounds, five on offense and defense each.
  • Sawyer Lloyd continues to be one of Angelo States main scorers, as she scored 16 points against the Patriots, shooting 5-12 from the field, 3-8 from the three-point line, and 3-5 from the free throw line. Lloyd registered four rebounds total, one on offense and three on defense, as well as one steal and four assists.
  • Catara Samuel showed her defensive prowess and skills tonight, as well as her offensive skills as she scored nine points, shooting 2-14 from the field, 2-10 from the three-point line, and 3-6 from the free throw line. Samuel recorded a career high 12 total rebounds, two on offense and 10 on defense, as well as one assist and one block.

The Belles travel to Commerce, Texas as they play the No. 4 Texas A&M-Commerce Lions on Saturday, February 1. Tipoff is slated for 2 p.m.
