Rams Smash ENMU on Opening Day

SAN ANGELO, Texas – The Angelo State University baseball team smashed Eastern New Mexico University in its home and season opener on Friday afternoon, 10-1.

In Case You Missed It:
  • The bats started off slow for both teams until the bottom of the third when Josh Elvir smacked a double to send Jordan Williams home to put the Rams on the board, 1-0.
  • The Blue and Gold's momentum picked up in the fourth, as they scored five runs.
  • Justin Lee led off the fourth inning with a double to left field to score Aaron Walters and put ASU up, 2-0.
  • The hits kept coming as Nicholas Novak hit a two-run single to right field to bring Jordan Williams and Lee home to increase the Rams lead to 5-0.
  • Riley Peterson finished the scoring run with a single to left center to send Elvir home and push the Rams lead to 6-0.
  • The Greyhounds ended Angelo State's shutout at the top of the sixth as Alex Kuhn scored on a wild pitch.
  • ASU picked up the bats again as Parker Bramlett smashed a triple to right center to score two more runs to lead 8-1.
  • Charlie Bartlett hit a sacrifice fly for the first out of the inning to send in Bramlett for a 9-1 lead and only one out.
  • With two outs and bases loaded, Jackson Hardy got walked allowing Novak to cross home to secure the victory for the Rams 10-1.

"Trent Baker did a great job setting the tone for the day and offensively we were able to do enough to come out on top. We will try to come out tomorrow and be better."

Notable Performances:
  • Bramlett recorded five at-bats with one run and one hit with two RBI.
  • Novak was right behind Bramlett with four at-bats with one run and two hits for two RBI.
  • On the mound, Baker threw 10 strikeouts through seven innings. He only allowed four hits with one run.

The Rams return to the field for game two of the series against Eastern New Mexico on Saturday, February 1. First pitch is set for 2 p.m.
