CONROE, Texas – The Angelo State Rambelle softball team split their double header today, as the Rambelles fell to the Southern Arkansas Muleriders in game one 5-4, while the Rambelles defeated the Henderson State Reddies in their second game, 3-0.
 
Against Southern Arkansas:

• Rambelles would go down 4-0 early on in the first three innings of the games.
• In the top of the fourth inning, with the bases loaded, Mykayla Stroud cranked a hit deep into left field, scoring both Ashlyn Lerma and Madison Fernandez and advancing Avery Zeigler to third base. Stroud would make it to second base on the throw to home to catch Fernandez.
• Megan Gordon would hit a grounder to the second base, sending Zeigler home for an RBI and advancing Stroud to third base to make the score 4-3, SAU.
• In the top of the seventh inning, the Muleriders would walk Hatty Shope. Next up to bat for the Rambelles was Keilei Garcia, who smacked a ball out into the outfield for a double and scoring Shope to make the game 5-4, SAU.
• The Rambelles loaded the bases, but was unable to get the game tying hit, resulting in a 5-4 loss.

 
Key Players:

• Courtney Barnhill had four at-bats with two hits with once with one stolen base.
• Hatty Shope had three at-bats with one scored run and one walk.
• Mykayla Stroud had two at-bats with one hit.
• In her freshman debut, Keilei Garcia went 2-2 with a double and an RBI.
• Freshman Genesis Armendariz was sharp in relief, throwing four innings and allowing only one run in her collegiate debut.

 
 
Against Henderson State:

• A throw from right fielder Megan Gordon to catcher Keilei Garcia caught the runner trying to score for the third out of the second inning.
• Paxton Scheurer had a big strikeout to end the top of the inning.
• Avery Zeigler hit a double off the left field fence to lead off the bottom of the fourth, and a triple from Maleya Burns scored Zeigler, giving the Rambelles their first lead of the day, the score being 1-0.
• A deep sacrifice fly off of the bat of Madison Fernandez scored Burns, extending the lead to 2-0.
• A throw from Mykayla Stroud to Garcia saves a run from being scored by Henderson, helping the Blue and Gold maintain their lead over the Reddies.
• A sacrifice bunt from Zeigler advances Barnhill into a scoring position with only one out, and Fernandez was able to drive Barnhill home on a single, scoring another RBI for Angelo State. The Rambelles defense proved too much for the Reddies when they took the field once again, as Henderson State had two players fly and ground out and one struck out looking. Angelo State takes the game over the Reddies, 3-0.

• Avery Zeigler was 1-1 with a hit by pitch, one stolen base, and one double.
• Madison Fernandez added to her solid day with a single and a sacrifice fly.
• Sophomore Paxton Scheurer threw a complete game shutout, allowing only four hits, with four strikeouts.

The Rambelles continue to play in the Arkansas Tech Invitational as they face off against the defending Division II national champions, Augustana, and then turn around and play the University of Central Oklahoma. Game times are set for 3 p.m. and 5:30 p.m., respectively.
