ASU Slides Past WNMU

SAN ANGELO, Texas – The Angelo State University men's basketball team defeated the Western New Mexico Mustangs on Saturday afternoon, 92-79. The Rams saw five players score in double-digits to help carry the team to victory.

The Blue and Gold improve to 9-2 on the season and 5-2 in conference play.

In Case You Missed It:
  • ASU started the game out on a 5-0 run with Andres Ibarguen knocking down the first basket for the Rams followed by a layup and free throw by Collin Turner to give the Rams a 5-0 lead.
  • Just over halfway through the first half, the Rams held an 11-point lead over the Mustangs at 29-18.
  • The Mustangs brought it back within nine at 29-20 but Camron Reedus pushed the lead back up to 12 off a three-pointer to lead, 32-20.
  • Angelo State held a 12-point lead at the half, 51-39.
  • The Mustangs momentum changed and they came out strong knocking down 10 quick points to close in on the Rams lead and trail 53-49 by the 16:58 mark. They went on a 10-0 run over a two minute span.
  • The Blue and Gold increased the lead back to a 10-point gap after a 6-0 run to lead 59-49 at the 13:57 mark.
  • In the final five minutes of the game, the Rams held on to a double-digit lead with both teams going back-and-forth with baskets. Marcel Pettway ended the game with a dunk at the 1:14 mark to give ASU the 92-79 victory.
Notable Players:
  • Turner (21), Jeremy Hayes (19), Ibarguen (16), Pettway (10), and Reedus (11) all contributed to the offense with double-digit points.
  • On the defensive side, Turner, Pettway, Reedus, and Salisu Yahaya all grabbed five rebounds.
  • The Rams outrebounded the Mustangs, 33-27.
  • From the floor, ASU shot 58.9 percent, 35.3 percent from beyond the arc, and 62.5 percent from the line.
