The Angelo State football team returns to action this weekend as the Rams travel east to take on Division I Stephen F. Austin University on Saturday, Oct. 17 in Nacogdoches, Texas.

The Rams have had a three-week hiatus, last playing in their season opener against West Texas A&M on Sept. 26, a 21-10 victory at home. ASU will attempt to go 2-0 for the third time in the last four seasons.

AGAINST WEST TEXAS:
The Rams put together a complete game in their win over WT, holding the Buffs to 86 total rushing yards while collecting 372 total yards of offense. After falling behind 7-0 in the first quarter, ASU scored back-to-back touchdowns while shutting West Texas out in the second half to hold them to 10 points. All three of Angelo State's scores came on the ground with three different backs collecting a touchdown.

Last Meeting: In the last meeting between the Rams and the Lumberjacks, SFA came away with the win during the 1995 season.

SCOUTING STEPHEN F. AUSTIN:
The Lumberjacks have had a difficult start to their season, opening the year with three straight losses. SFA fell to UTEP 24-14 and UTSA 24-10 before being trampled by SMU 50-7. The Lumberjacks did break the losing streak in their latest contest, defeating West Texas 34-6 on Oct. 3.

SFA is averaging just over 16 points per game while collecting 322 yards on the ground. Defensively, opponents are averaging nearly 400 yards of offense against the Lumberjacks while scoring over 26 points.

Trae Self leads SFA's passing game with 785 yards in his first four games this season. He has four touchdowns with three interceptions and adds 98 yards and a score on the ground. His go to target has been Xavier Gibson who has 17 receptions for 275 yards and two touchdowns.

Averaging 5.5 yards per carry, Da'Leon Ward is the leading rusher for SFA with 209 total yards and two scores while Jaquarion Turner adds 90 yards rushing and one touchdown.

On the defensive side, the Lumberjacks have collected five takeaways this season including three picks and two forced fumbles. BJ Thomas leads the defense with two sacks, one inception, while Brevin Randle has collected a team-high 28 tackles with 1.5 sacks and two fumble recoveries.

RUNNING BACK DUO EMERGES:
Nate Omayebu and
Carl Odom had nearly identical games against West Texas A&M, each collecting a touchdown with 76 and 74 yards respectively. With 150 combined yards of offense, Omayebu and Odom give the Rams a steady run game.

THREE-TOOL PLAYER:
In his first start for the Rams, quarterback
Zach Bronkhorst managed a perfect game against the Buffs, completing 18-of-28 passing for 178 yards and a long of 44. During ASU's first two scoring drives, he completed seven straight passes as the Rams marched down the field to take a lead. He also showed his athleticism, rushing for 28 yards and collecting a pass from
Austin Landry.

SACK-TASTIC:
Led by linebacker
Daron Allman, ASU finished the game against WT with three sacks on the night. Allman collected 2.5 sacks while tying for a team-high in tackles with nine.

OFFENSIVE NOTES:
- The Rams put up 372 yards of offense in their only contest of the season and had a balanced attack with 178 rushing yards and 194 yards through the air.
- Omayebu and Odom split time in the backfield, each collecting over 70 yards of offense while Alfred Grear added eight yards and a score on four attempts.
- Seven different receivers caught a pass in the win over WT. Landry finished with five catches and 41 yards, Dagen Dunham added 47 yards off two grabs, and Kellen Pachot collected four catches for 39 yards.
- Bronkhorst managed the game well, picking up first downs through the air and on the ground.
- Dunham has made a nice transition to the offense this season, collecting the longest pass of the night for 44 yards.

DEFENSIVE NOTES:
- Angelo State came out strong defensively against the Buffs, holding them to 291 yards of offense and only 86 rushing yards.
- After giving up an early score in the first quarter, the defense locked against WT, allowing a second quarter field goal while shutting out the Buffs in the second half.
- Three players recorded a team-high nine tackles in Allman, DeShaun Douglas, and Weston Bauer.
- The Rams finished with three sacks and eight tackles for loss.
- Douglas holds the only takeaway for the Rams defense, an interception late in the fourth quarter.
- Simon Maxey picked up four tackles and half a sack against WT.
- Leddy French II finished the night with two pass breakups to lead the secondary.
