SAN ANGELO, Texas – The Angelo State Belle basketball team hosted the Texas A&M International Dustdevils at home for their Senior Day game, but ultimately fell to a very defensive Texas A&M International team, 86-76.
The Belles are now 15-9 overall and 12-8 in conference play.
In Case You Missed It:
First Quarter
- A layup from Catara Samuel underneath the basket started the game off for ASU, tying the game at 2-2.
- Asia Davis would make a layup on an opponent turnover, cutting the Dustdevils lead to one point, 4-5.
- A foul on De'Anira Moore would send her to the free throw line where she would knock two free throws down, bringing the Belles within two points of the lead, 6-8.
- Two layups from Samuel and Moore cut the Dustdevils lead back down to one, 13-12.
- Another layup from Samuel would give the Belles their first lead of the game, 14-13.
- Davis would extend ASUs' lead to three points over Texas A&M International, 16-13, with three minutes left in the first quarter.
- Samantha Rocha would be fouled and would be sent to the free throw line, knocking down two free throws to extend the Belles lead to five points over the Dustdevils, 18-13.
- The Dustdevils would knock dwon a three pointer, cutting the Belles lead down to two, but two free throws from Moore and a second chance layup from Rocha brought the Belles lead up to six points, 22-16.
Second Quarter
- The Dustdevils would cut ASUs' lead to two, but a layup from Moore and a free throw from Samuel brought the Belles back to a five-point lead, 25-20.
- A&M International would tie the game and take the lead over ASU, but a layup from Samuel gave Angelo State lack their lead by one point, 27-26.
- The Dustdevils would take a one-point lead back, but a three pointer from Rocha gave Angelo State a two point lead with six minutes left in the second quarter, 30-28.
- A layup and free throw from Kinley Brown brought the Belles back to a three-point lead over TAMIU, 33-30.
- International would tie the game at 33-33, but a jumper from Moore and a layup from Samuel brought the lead back up to four points, 37-33.
- A three pointer and layup gave International back the lead, but two free throws from Brown gave ASU back the lead, 39-38.
- A layup from Samuel gave the Blue and Gold a two point lead over TAMIU, but the Dustdevils would tie the game up at 41-41 with 10 seconds left on the clock.
Third Quarter
- Sawyer Lloyd would start off the second half for ASU, making a three pointer and bringing ASU to another three point lead over the Dustdevils, 44-41.
- The Dustdevils would cut the Belles lead down to one, but Moore would make a free throw to bring Angelo State to a two point lead, 45-43.
- The Dustdevils would briefly take the lead from Angelo State, but a three pointer from Samuel and a jumper from Moore gave the Belles a three point lead, 49-46.
- Moore would be fouled and would knock down two free throws to extend the Belles lead back to two, 51-49.
- International would tie the game at 51-51, but a three pointer from Lloyd would give the Belles a three point lead, 54-51.
- TAMIU would once again tie the game at 54-54, but Moore would score a layup and put Angelo State in a two point lead over the Dustdevils, 56-54.
Fourth Quarter
- Lana Marov would regain the lead for ASU, hitting a three off of an opponent turnover, 59-58.
- Another made three pointer from Lloyd gave ASU a two point lead over TAMIU, 62-60.
- International would quickly gain a four point lead over the Belles, but a jumper from Lloyd brought the Dustdevils lead to two, 66-64.
- Two free throws from Samuel and a three from Megan Guadian kept the Dustdevils lead from growing past six points, 75-69.
- Moore would cut the Dustdevils lead back down to six with a layup off of an opponent turnover, 77-71.
- Two free throws from Moore cut the Dustdevils back down to seven with 1:50 left on the clock, 80-73. ASU would attempt a comeback to take the win from TAMIU, but the Dustdevils would ultimately defeat the Belles at home, 86-76.
Key Players:
- De'Anira Moore continues to be one of the main offensive scorers for the Belles as she would score 24 points against the Dustdevils. Moore shot 7-17 from the field and 10-13 from the free throw line. Moore grabbed 10 total rebounds for the Belles, eight on offense and two on defense, while also grabbing one assist and seven blocks.
- Catara Samuel continues to be another main offensive player for Angelo State, scoring 17 points for ASU. Samuel shot 7-12 from the field and 3-5 from the free throw line. Samuel grabbed four total rebounds, one on offense and three on defense, while grabbing five assists.
- Sawyer Lloyd continues to be a force on offense and defense for the Belles, scoring 11 points for Angelo State. Lloyd shot 4-12 from the field and 3-7 from the three point line, while grabbing four defensive rebounds, three assists, one block, and one steal.
