ODESSA, Texas – The Angelo State Belle basketball team defeated the University of Texas – Permian Basin Falcons in Odessa, Texas to finish out the regular conference season, 86-79.
The Belles are now 17-9 overall and 14-8 in conference.
In Case You Missed It:
First Quarter
- A three pointer from Lana Marov and a layup from Catara Samuel started the first quarter off for ASU as the Belles quickly jumped to a 5-2 lead over the Falcons.
- Two layups from Marov and Samuel extended the Belles lead even further to a 10-5 over UTPB.
- A layup from De'Anira Moore extended the Belles lead to seven points, 12-5.
- The Falcons would cut the Belles lead down to four, but a layup and free throw from sawyer Lloyd brought the Belles back to a seven point lead, 15-8.
- UTPB would come back and take the lead from the Belles and keep Angelo State from scoring for over four minutes and extend their lead to four points, 15-19.
- Moore would hit a layup to cut the Falcons lead down to tow, but a three pointer from UTPB brought their lead back up to five points, 22-17.
- Samuel would end the quarter for the Belles with a layup to cut the Falcons lead down to three, 22-19.
Second Quarter
- Asia Davis would cut the Falcons lead even further to one point with a made layup, but another layup from Davis would give the Belles back the lead, 23-22.
- The Falcons would take a one point lead back from ASU, but a three pointer from Lloyd gave the Belles a two point lead once again, 26-24.
- Two layups from Lloyd and Davis extended the Belles lead back to six points, 30-24.
- UTPB would make a layup and cut the Belles lead down to four, but Moore would make a layup to bring the Belles lead back to six, 32-26.
- Two free throws from Marov would maintain the Belles six point lead with 3:07 left in the first half, 36-30.
- UTPB would score two layups to cut the Belles lead down to two, but a layup from Davis brought ASU back to a four point lead, 38-34.
- A free throw from Moore and a layup from Samuel finished the first half for ASU as the Belles would lead the Falcons by seven going into the third quarter, 41-34.
Third Quarter
- Angelo State would start the third quarter on a seven point run to jump to a 14 point lead over UTPB, 48-34.
- UTPB would cut the Belles lead down to 11, but a layup from Samuel brought the Belles lead back to 13, 50-37.
- A three pointer made by Davis, assisted by Lloyd, extended the Belles lead to 14 after the Falcons cut it back down to 11, 53-39.
- Two free throws from Davis and a three pointer from Samuel extended the Blue and Golds lead to 15, 58-43.
- The Falcons would cut the Belles lead down to six points, keeping Angelo State from scoring for over two minutes, until a three pointer from Samuel brought the Belles lead up to nine points, 61-52.
- Two free throws from UTPB cut ASUs' lead down to seven, but two layups from Moore brought Angelo States the Belles lead back to 11 over the Falcons, 65-54, to end the third quarter.
Fourth Quarter
- UTPB would cut the Belles lead down to seven, but a layup from Moore brought Angelo States lead back to nine, 67-58.
- A layup from UTPB cut the Belles lead down to seven once again, but a three pointer from Lloyd brought the Belles lead back to 10, 70-60.
- A layup from Marov and a three pointer from Lloyd brought ASU back to an 11 point lead over UTPB, 75-64.
- Several three pointers would cut the Belles lead down to two points, but a made three pointer from Marov would bring the Belles lead back to five, 80-75.
- Two layups from Lloyd and Davis brought the Belles to a nine point lead, but a layup from UTPB cut the lead down to seven to end the game for Angelo State, 86-79.
Key Players:
- De'Anira Moore continues to be one Angelo States biggest offensive forces in the paint, scoring 22 points for the Belles. Moore shot 9-11 from the field and 4-6 from the free throw line. Moore grabbed 13 total rebounds, five on offense and eight on defense, while also grabbing two blocks.
- Catara Samuel continues to show her offensive might and skill on the court for Angelo State, scoring 18 points for the Belles. Samuel shot 8-158 from the field and 2-4 from the field goal line. Samuel grabbed five total rebounds, one on offense and four on defense, as well as two assists and two steals.
- Asia Davis once again showed her offensive talent and skill for ASU, scoring 18 points for the Belles. Davis shot 7-12 from the field, 1-4 from the three point line, and 3-4 from the free throw line. Davis grabbed three total rebounds, one offensive and two defensive, along with four assists and one steal.

The Belles prepare for the Lone Star Conference Tournament held in Frisco, Texas. Tournament play begins on Tuesday, March 3 to finish the final eight that go to the tournament, but the actual tournament will begin on Thursday, March 5.
