SAN ANGELO, Texas – The Angelo State University women's tennis team picked up two more wins on the season, defeating Northeastern State University and University of Texas Permian Basin in its home and conference opener on Saturday.
The Belles improve to 7-1 overall and 1-0 in conference play.
Match 1: ASU 5, NSU 2
- In doubles, Northeastern State picked up the point to take a 1-0 lead in the match. Tatjana Stoll and partner Kristela Vidnere defeated Valentina Gonzalez and Ena Ovcina in a tough 6-4 match. Maria Delgadillo and Zoe Gubbels fell in their doubles match in a close 7-5 set to Melissa Vera and Vera Carvalho. Anna Schneemann and Virginie Becht won their match defeating Emma Warnock and Betka Gombarova, 6-2.
- In singles, the Belles claimed all five of their points.
- Court 2 singles, Ovcina claimed the first point for ASU, defeating her opponent in two straight sets by scores of 6-1 and 6-2 to even the match at 1-1.
- Gubbels picked up the second point and took the lead for ASU defeating her opponent Melissa Vera in two straight by scores of 6-1 and 6-3.
- Gonzalez earned the third point for the Belles on Court 1, upsetting No. 3 Stoll in two straight sets by scores of 6-2 and 6-1.
- Court 3 singles, Dianela Rodriguez defeated her opponent with ease taking both sets by scores of 6-1 and 6-3.
- Delgadillo rounded out the ASU scorers defeating her opponent Vidnere in a tough first set by a score of 7-6, winning the tie break 3-0. She went on to take set two by a score of 6-2.
- The Riverhawks' Chloe Certain claimed the second point for NSU but fell 5-2.
Match 2: ASU 7, UTPB 0
- The Belles claimed their first conference win a 7-0 victory over the UT Permian Basin Falcons.
- In doubles, Gonzalez and Ovcina defeated their opponents Lisa Guitton and Melissa Ariza by a score of 6-0. Gubbels and Becht followed up with a 6-1 victory over their opponents, giving ASU the 1-0 lead. Lucie Maitrot teamed up with Schneemann on court 3 doubles, defeating their opponents by a score of 6-2.
- In singles, Gonzalez claimed another point for the Blue and Gold, as she defeated Ariza in two straight by scores of 6-1 and 6-0.
- Delgadillo battled in her singles match as she took set one by a score of 6-2 but fell in set two in tough 7-5 battle which caused a tie break. Delgadillo pulled out the victory with a 1-0 (12-10) tiebreak situation.
- Gubbels picked up a point for the Belles taking her match in two straight sets by scores of 6-4 and 6-3 to give ASU a 4-0 lead.
- Schneemann grabbed the fifth point for Angelo State, defeating her opponent by a score of 6-1 in both sets.
- Becht earned a victory over Anastasia Obreque by a score of 6-1 in both sets.
- Maitrot rounded out the point scorers for ASU, winning both sets by scores of 6-3 and 6-2 to end the match at 7-0.

Angelo State will take to the road for a three-match series in Wichita Falls, Texas beginning on Thursday, March 5. The Belles will play in-region opponents Colorado Mesa University, Colorado State-Pueblo, and Metropolitan State University of Denver. First serve on Thursday against CMU is slated for 4 p.m.
