Rams Fall Short in Semifinals to WT

FRISCO, Texas – In a tough semifinal battle on Saturday night, the Angelo State University men's basketball team's season came to an end in the Lone Star Conference tournament, falling short against West Texas A&M, 87-77.

The Rams fall to 20-8 overall.

In Case You Missed It:
  • Marcel Pettway grabbed the first points of the game with a layup under the basket to put ASU on the board, 2-0. The Buffs went down the court and answered with a shot from outside the perimeter to take a 3-2 lead.
  • Halfway through the first half, the Buffs jumped to a seven-point lead at 25-18 but the Rams went on a 6-1 scoring run to bring the score back within two at 26-24.
  • West Texas made another run toward the end of the half to lead by 10 points with 4:04 remaining in the game.
  • The Blue and Gold battled back to trail by five at the half at 46-41.
  • To start the second half, the Buffs knocked down two shots from outside the three-point arc to jump to an 11-point lead at 52-41 but Camron Reedus responded back with three on the other end to bring it back within eight points at 52-44.
  • After Qua Grant pushed the lead back up to double digits, the Rams made a run over the span of one minute to trail by three at the 16:20 mark. The run started on a three-pointer by Reedus followed by free throws by Paul Williams and a layup by Andres Ibarguen.
  • From there, the Blue and Gold tangoed with the Buffs, not letting the game get too out of hand for either team.
  • With 2:36 remaining in the game, ASU trailed by two points after Williams knocked down two free throws but the Buffs scored eight unanswered points to secure the victory and hold the Rams from a comeback upset.
Key Players:
  • Reedus and Ibarguen led the offense with 23 points each while Ibarguen added 19 rebounds. Reedus went lights out from the three-point, knocking down 7-of-12.
  • Collin Turner contributed with 13 points to the offense.
