Rams Run By Simon Fraser in 51-10 Victory

SAN ANGLEO, Texas – The Angelo State football team picked up its third straight win at home on Saturday, defeating nonconference opponent Simon Fraser 51-10 at LeGrand Stadium at 1st Community Credit Union Field.
 
The Rams improve to 6-2 overall the season, while holding a perfect 4-0 record against non Lone Star Conference opponents.
 
ASU defense stepped up again this week, holding an opponent to under 40 yards rushing for the second week in a row as SFU tallied 39 yards on 27 attempts on the ground.
 
The Rams outdrove Simon Fraser on offense, totaling 461 yards to only 190 yards for SFU.
 
SFU's opening drive ended in an interception Kason Cooper collected a tipped ball to give the Rams great field position in their first action on offense. Driving 42 yards on five plays, ASU took an early lead as Nathaniel Omayebu III walked in from six yards out for the first touchdown of the game.
 
Later in the quarter, the Rams added another score as Alfred Grear broke away on the only play of the drive, running 46 yards to give ASU a two-score lead.
 
Omayebu finished the game with 112 yards rushing and two touchdowns while Grear ended with 100 yards and a score. CJ Odom also added 68 yards rushing as the Rams finished with 282 yards on the ground.
 
Simon Fraser scored their first points midway through the second quarter, converting on a 30-yard field goal attempt.
 
After a safety gave two more points to the Rams, Grear added some more, returning the punt 90 yards to give ASU a 24-3 advantage.
 
The Rams defense tallied three sacks and five tackles for loss against SFU while collecting two interceptions. Hunter Kyle led the defense with seven total tackles while Tre'Darius Colbert finished with six tackles and a sack.
 
In the second half, the Rams' offense continued to roll, driving 55 yards before Zach Bronkhorst pushed the ball in from 1-yard out to go up 30-3.
 
SFU scored its only touchdown of the game with just under three minutes to go in the third quarter, connecting on a 13-yard touchdown pass.
 
Bronkhorst closed out the quarter with a 34-yard touchdown pass to Kellen Pachot as ASU took a 38-10 lead. Bronkhorst finished the night 122 yards passing on the night while Pachot was the top receiver for the Rams, collecting five catches for 75 yards and a score.
 
The Rams tallied two more touchdowns in the fourth quarter as Omayebu earned his second of the game, rushing from three yards out while Andrew Pitts returned an interception 45 yards, collecting his second defensive touchdown of the season.
 
Angelo State returns to Lone Star play next week as the Rams travel to Eastern New Mexico on Saturday, Oct. 30.
