Rams Dominate ENMU 59-7 to Earn Third Straight Victory

PORTALES, N.M. – The Angelo State football team put together a complete team performance on the road on Saturday, defeating Eastern New Mexico 59-7 at Greyhound Stadium as the Rams continue the push for a playoff spot.
 
The Rams pick up their third straight victory as they improve to 7-2 overall on the season and 3-2 in Lone Star Conference play. ASU will face Texas A&M – Commerce in the last home game of the regular season next week on Saturday, Nov. 6.
 
ASU tallied 489 yards of total offense in the game, rushing for 256 yards and passing for 233 while holding the Greyhounds to 197 total yards including only 85 yards passing.
 
After starting the scoring with a 31-yard field goal, Andrew Pitts found his third interception of the season, setting up a 23-yard touchdown pass from Zach Bronkhorst to Dagen Dunham to give ASU an early 10-0 lead.
 
Later in the quarter, Nathaniel Omayebu III broke a 32-yard run to make it first and goal for the Rams. Bronkhorst added another touchdown, keeping the ball on an option before running nine yards for the score.
 
On the very next possession for the Greyhounds, ASU's defense came up with the takeaway again as DeShaun Douglas intercepted the pass, setting up a 26-yard screen pass to CJ Odom for another touchdown, giving the Rams a 24-0 advantage.
 
The Rams finished the game with four takeaways, forcing one fumble while intercepting three passes. Leddy French II collected a game-high seven tackles while Hunter Kyle and Josh Quinton each finished with six tackles. Quinton and Layton English both recorded half a sack while Donavyn Jackson added another sack of his own.
 
With the second quarter coming to an end, the Rams took over after a punt, driving 72 yards on three plays, capped off by a nine-yard touchdown run by Omayebu as ASU took a 31-0 lead into the break.
 
Omayebu finished with a high of 120 rushing yards and a score while Alfred Grear collected 71 yards on the ground and Odom finished with 50 yards and two touchdowns.
 
In their first drive of the third quarter, ASU moved 93 yards down the field as Bronkhorst completed passes to Noah Massey and Dunham for 48 and 27 yards respectively. Odom capped the drive off with an 11-yard touchdown run for his second score of the game.
 
Bronkhorst recorded his second rushing touchdown of the game later in the quarter, keeping the ball on a play-action pass and running up the middle for a two-yard score as the Rams extended their lead to 45-0.
 
Bronkhorst finished the game 11-of-21 passing for 233 yards and two passing touchdowns while rushing for 11 yards and two touchdowns on the ground. Three receivers tallied 50 yards receiving against the Greyhounds as Massey finished with 56 yards followed by 54 from Kellen Pachot, and 50 from Dunham.
 
In the closing moments of the third quarter, ENMU broke the shutout as they scored on a six-yard touchdown pass on fourth down to make the score 45-7.
 
In ASU's first drive of the fourth quarter, the Rams added another touchdown, driving 73 yards on seven plays as Odom scored his third touchdown of the game with a six-yard run.
 
With just over a minute to play, ASU found their third interception of the game, this time by Devin Washington who returns the pick for the final score of the game.
 
The Rams have had a defensive touchdown in each of their last three games while outscoring opponents 144-31 in that span.
