SAN ANGELO – The Belles basketball team, despite outscoring opponents Arkansas Tech in three of the four quarters, were undone by a third quarter that saw the Golden Suns outscore the Belles 34-12 to claim a 76-63 victory inside the Junell Center.
The Suns went 13-19 from the field in the decisive third quarter while the Belles only shot 6-16 from the field.
A hot start for the Belles saw them shoot 47 percent from the field in the opening quarter.
For the second game in a row,
Blakely Gerber led the Belles in scoring with 17 points on 6-18 shooting from the field. She went to the free throw line six times, making five of them; she also grabbed six rebounds.
Payton Brown was back in double digits with 10 points. The guard also grabbed eight rebounds as well as a team-high five steals, assisting five times as well. Brown, for the second game in a row, did not leave the floor for the Belles.
Madeline Stephens and
Linsey Marchese each scored eight points and grabbed five rebounds, while
Ashlynn Sharp scored seven points off the bench.
The Belles return to action next weekend to face a pair of LSC opponents on the road – Texas A&M International and Texas A&M-Kingsville, in non-conference play.
