Rambelles Down Rattlers Through Strong Second Half

SAN ANGELO – The Angelo State women's basketball team picked up their first home win of the season and are now on a two-game winning streak after a strong second-half saw them down LSC opponents St. Mary's 69-55 in a nice win for the Rambelles before the holiday break.

The win is the Rambelles' first home win since March 3rd, 2020, against Midwestern State; it is also the first winning streak for the Rambelles since that same date.

With the halftime score standing at 27-25 in favor of the Rattlers, the Rambelles would outscore their opposition 44-28 in the second half to secure the victory. A Sawyer Lloyd layup with 1:38 left in the third quarter gave the Rambelles the lead, one they would not relinquish for the remainder of the game.

The Rambelles shot 35.1 percent in the second half, improving from their 29.4 percent mark in the first half.

Defensively, they held the Rattlers to seven points, and one made field goal in 16 attempts in the final frame. They also forced the Rattlers into 25 turnovers while only committing eight turnovers of their own, a season-best mark for the Rambelles. For the game, the Rattlers only shot 28.6 percent from the floor.

Four Rambelles reached double-digits in scoring, led by Tayjanna McGhee-Pleasant's 14 points. The Amarillo native shot 6-13 from the floor, also grabbing eight rebounds and a season-high six steals.

Lloyd scored a season-high 12 points in 33 minutes of action, grabbing five rebounds and four steals; Blakely Gerber joined Lloyd in scoring 12 points, also securing six rebounds.

Point guard Payton Brown went 7-8 from the free-throw line en route to scoring 11 points. Brown also recorded five rebounds, six assists and a pair of steals.

Madeline Stephens and Madisen Honea scored six points each, with Stephens also grabbing a team-high nine rebounds.

The Rambelles improve their record to 2-8 on the season. They close their week's schedule tomorrow inside the Junell Center when they host Huston-Tillotson. Tip off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
