SAN ANGELO, Texas – The Angelo State men's basketball team tallied its second straight win on Saturday afternoon, downing Arlington Baptist 85-75 at Stephens Arena in the Junell Center.
The Rams will take a 9-2 overall record into conference play which is set to begin on Dec. 31.
Arlington Baptist kept things close to begin the game, leading 16-14 midway through the first half. ASU strung together some runs, leading by as much as seven before taking a 36-34 lead into halftime.
Dante Moses led the Rams with a season-high in both points and rebounds, totaling 20 points while collecting 14 boards to complete the double-double. He shot 9-of-12 from the field and added three assists.
The Rams came out quick in the second half, scoring on a 96-2 run to gain a little distance from the Patriots. ASU extended their lead to double digits after a layup by
Lathaniel Bastian made it 64-54 with just over eight minutes to play.
Angelo State shot 45 percent from the field while dominating down low, winning the rebounding margin 51 to 35. The Rams scored 54 of their points in the paint while tallying 26 fast break points, and 19 points off turnovers, forcing 20 turnovers by the Patriots.
Devaughn Thomas gave the Rams their largest lead of the night at 85-70, hitting a three-pointer with 1:28 to play.
Also scoring in double digits for ASU was
Tyrell Carroll who finished with 18 points and seven rebounds followed by Bastian with 10 points and seven boards.
The Rams will take a quick break for the holiday before returning to action on Friday, Dec. 31 as they take on St. Edward's to begin Lone Star Conference play on the road.
