MAGNOLIA, Ark. – The 13
th-ranked Angelo State tennis team picked up another road victory today as the Belles defeated Southern Arkansas 5-2 on Sunday afternoon.
The Belles improve to 2-1 to start the spring after splitting yesterday's matches.
Ena Ovcina and
Valentina Gonzalez kept up their dominance as a doubles team, winning 6-2 while
Maria Delgadillo and
Ayda Guler teamed up to win 6-3 and clinch the doubles point for ASU.
In singles play, Ovcina jumped out to a quick victory, winning both sets 6-3 and 6-4 at the No. 2 spot. Also winning in straight sets was
Dianela Rodriguez (7-6, 6-4) at the No. 3 spot and
Virginie Becht (6-1, 7-5) at No. 6.
The final win for the Belles came from Gonzalez who came back from a 5-7 loss in the opening set to win 6-2, 6-2 to end it.
The Belles will compete in the ITA National Indoor Championship next week beginning Friday, Feb. 26,
