SAN ANGELO, Texas – The Angelo State Rambelle softball team wrapped up the George & Ola McCorkle Challenge against the UT Tyler Patriots, falling to the Patriots, 4-1. The Rambelles fall to a 4-3 record, taking a 3-2 record in the tournament.
UT Tyler scored two runs in the top of the first inning, with UT Tylers Serena Saldivar hitting a single to score Haleigh Sweeney from second, and Avery Farr also hitting a single, advancing to second on an error while Saldivar scored an unearned run to take a 2-0 lead over Angelo State. The Rambelle defense quickly got the third out on a grounder to the shortstop,
Mykayla Stroud, to take the batter's box in the bottom of the first inning.
Hatty Shope was hit by a pitch to advance to first, where shortly afterwards stole second with
Jade Strother in the box for Angelo State. Strother registered a single for an RBI as Shope scored from second to cut the Rambelles deficit to 2-1.
Tyler scored two runs again in the top of the fourth inning, as Bayli Simon smacked a double into the outfield with runners on first and second, and advanced to third on the throw. UT Tylers Mak Dominguez and Courtney Plocheck both scored to give the Patriots a 4-1 lead over Angelo State.
Makayla Corbin and the Rambelle defense stopped the Patriots from scoring anymore runs for the rest of the game, but the Patriots defense proved too much for the Rambelles as the Patriots defeated Angelo State, 4-1, on the final day of the George McCorkle Challenge.
