Rambelles Dominate Henderson State in First Double Header, 10-1 and 12-2

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – The Angelo State Rambelles traveled to Arkansas to face off against the Henderson State Reddies,
 
Game One Against Henderson State:
Madison Fernandez got the bats going in the top of the second inning, smacking a home run over the fence to give Angelo State a 1-0 lead over the Reddies. Genesis Armendariz stepped into the circle for the Rambelles, with one batter hitting a grounder right to the second base, with Armendariz registering two strikeouts to end the second inning.
 
Courtney Barnhill reached first on an error from the second baseman to start the third inning, with Ashlynn Box being walked to advance Barnhill to second. Fernandez hit a ball deep into right field for a single, advancing Box to third and scoring Barnhill to extend ASUs lead to 2-0.
 
Mykayla Stroud hit a single to left field, stealing second with Hatty Shope to take the batters box for the Rambelles. Shope smacked a single down the right field line for an RBI, scoring Stroud from second for ASU to take a 3-0 lead. With Jade Strother up to bat for Angelo State, Shope stole second base, and scoring off of a double hit by Strother down the right field line to bring Angelo States lead to 4-0.
 
Barnhill showed her training and power as she smacked a home run over the fence to score two runs to bring ASU to a 6-0 lead over Henderson State. Barnhill has now hit 49 home runs in her career as an Angelo State Rambelle.
 
Henderson State scored a run in the bottom of the fourth inning, but that would the only run they would score as Armendariz struck the final batter out to send the game into the fifth inning, giving ASU another chance at bat.
 
Bailey Martinez began the inning off for Angelo State with a double down the left field line, with Ashton Dirner to pinch run for Martinez. Stroud reached first on an error from the shortstop, with Dirner advancing into scoring positon at third, with Shope up to bat for ASU.
 
Shope grounded out to the shortstop, registering an RBI as Dirner scored another run for the Rambelles, and Stroud advanced to second base. Strother flew out to the center fielder, advancing Stroud to third, and Barnhill was walked to first. Box smacked a double into deep left field, scoring Stroud and Barnhill to give the Rambelles a 9-1 lead over the Reddies.
 
Hailey Mitchell came in to pinch hit for Avery Zeigler, reaching first on an error from the second baseman and advancing to second on the throw, and scoring Box to take a 10-1 lead going into the bottom of the fifth inning.
 
The Rambelle defense shut down the Reddies offense in the bottom of the fifth inning, with Armendariz striking out the first batter, and the final two outs coming from a pop up to the second baseman, and a grounder to the third baseman for ASU to take the first game against Henderson State, 10-1.

  • Barnhill had three at-bats, scoring three runs, and registering two hits, two RBI, and one home run.
  • Fernandez had two at bats, scoring one run, and registering two hits, two RBI, and one home run as well.
  • Strother had four at-bats, scoring one run, registering one hit and one RBI.
  • Armendariz threw for four inning, throwing four strikeouts and facing 16 batters.
 
Game Two Against Henderson State:
With Strother on first from a walk, Barnhill stepped up to the plate and crushed a double deep into right field for an RBI, scoring Strother and giving ASU a 1-0 lead over the Reddies. Box ground out to the pitcher and giving advancing Barnhill into scoring position at third.
 
Maleya Burns hit a double into deep center field for two RBI, scoring Barnhill and Fernandez as Fernandez scored on a throwing error from the shortstop. Paxton Schuerer hit a double down the left field line to score Burns from second to give the Rambelles a 4-0 lead going into the bottom of the first inning.
 
Makayla Corbin and the Rambelle defense quickly ended the first inning as two runners hit pop flys to the first baseman and the shortstop, with the third being grounded to the third baseman.
 
Stroud advanced to third base after being walked and stealing second, while Shope stole second after being walked as well. Barnhill cranked a ball into center field to score Stroud and Shope for two RBI to bring ASUs lead to 6-0 over Henderson State. With runners on second and third, Fernandez walked while Box advanced to third on a wild pitch and Barnhill scored to bring ASU to a 7-0 lead going into the third inning.
 
Keilei Garcia walked, advancing to second while Ashlyn Lerma would also be walked. Strother smacked a single into right field to score Garcia from second and advancing Lerma to third in scoring position to bring ASU to an 8-0 lead over the Reddies. Box drove a ball down the left field line to score Barnhill and Strother for another 2 RBI to extend the Rambelles lead over Henderson State to 10-0.
 
Mitchell came in relief for Box to run, scoring another run as Fernandez hit a double into right field. Burns followed Fernandezs lead and hit a double into right field as well, scoring Fernandez and bringing the Rambelles to a 12-0 lead over the Reddies.
 
Henderson State scored a run in the bottom of the third quarter and bottom of the fourth quarter, but Corbins pitching skills and the Rambelles defense stopped the Reddies from scoring more than two as Angelo State took game two over Henderson State, 12-2.

  • Burns had four at-bats, scoring one run, registering three RBI and three doubles against the Reddies.
  • Strother had two at-bats, scoring two runs, and registering one hit and one RBI.
  • Corbin three for three innings, throwing two strikeouts and facing 12 batters. Scheurer and Victoria Vasquez both pitched one inning in relief, with Vasquez throwing one strikeout.

The Rambelles face Henderson State once again in another double header on Wednesday, March 3 in Arkadelphia, Arkansas. Game one will start at 12 p.m., while game two will begin at 2:30 p.m.
