SAN ANGELO, Texas – The top-ranked Angelo State baseball team returned to Lone Star Conference action on Friday, defeating St. Mary's 13-8 at Foster Field at 1
st Community Credit Union Stadium.
The Rams improve to 7-1 on the season, 3-1 in the LSC, while winning six consecutive games. In all six games, the Rams have scored 13 or more runs.
Angelo State jumped ahead early in the game as
Nick Seginowich hit a two-RBI triple in the first inning while
Aaron Walters followed up with an RBI single to score Seginowich as the Rams took a 3-0 lead after one.
The added two more in the second winning as
Reese Johnson grounded out, scoring
Thomas Cain in the process before Walters earned his second RBI of the game, hitting a single to score
Josh Elvir.
In the third inning, Cain hit a sacrifice fly to right field as
Jordan Williams came across to score, giving the Rams a 6-0 lead in the end of the third inning.
The Rams finished with 14 hits in the game while collected 11 total walks on the night. Elvir finished with three walks, going 1-for-2 in official at bats while
Parker Bramlett finished with two walks.
Trent Baker tossed six innings on the mound for ASU, collecting his third win of the season as he starts 3-0. He allowed only four hits and two earn runs while striking out five batters.
Connor Hart,
Landon Schirer, and
Austin Buley combined for three innings of relief.
The Rattlers found some life in the top of the eighth inning, scoring six runs to come within three of the lead at 11-8.
Angelo State added two more insurance runs in the bottom of the inning as Seginowich doubled to right center, collecting two more RBIs to finish the night with four.
The Rams and Rattlers continue the series tomorrow with a doubleheader at Foster Field beginning at 1 p.m.
